Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Garrison.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Sarah. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have been a licensed social worker since 2004. I moved from Washington to Texas in 2009 and have worked in School Social Work and in Mental Health Hospitals. I have worked with adolescents and adults struggling with mental health issues, as well as drug and alcohol issues. I love working with clients to help them identify and accomplish their goals for improved health and wellbeing. In 2014, I decided to pursue my clinical license so that I could go into private practice, and really work in a deeper and more meaningful way with all my clients. I opened Bright Skies Counseling in 2016 and have loved every second of it!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There have definitely been some unanticipated struggles in opening my own business. It has taken a lot longer than I expected to be able to get approved for insurance panels, which has meant that it has also taken longer to build a clientele to make my business profitable. It has been a learning curve, but I have been able to work through each challenge step by step. I have been able to come up with some creative solutions while getting all the details in place. I’ve also been really blessed with some great community connections and mentors who have helped me every step of the way.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I don’t think I’d do anything differently. I’ve really been blessed and challenged in starting this business, and it has developed into something I’m incredibly proud of. We hope to continue to grow and serve our clients and community!
