Meet Sarah Lynn Williams

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Lynn Williams.

Sarah, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
For as long as I can remember, I have been drawn to the creative side of life. Growing up in beautiful San Diego, I was always finding beauty in the world around me. The younger me had no interest in math or science. I just wanted to throw myself into everything creative. I began drawing, and through middle school and high school, I excelled in art, dance, and photography. Then life happened. I got caught up in the hustle and bustle of every day and my art took a backseat for a while.

It wasn’t until 2017 that I really had an urge inside of me to start creating again. So I picked up my sketchbook and began to draw. My husband, Brian, had no idea I was an artist and was shocked when he saw my sketches. He encouraged me to make it a larger part of my life. It was soon after that, I picked up a paintbrush. It was there that my passion unfolded. There is something so exhilarating about a blank canvas in front of me, and all the possibilities of what it can be!

I am inspired by artists like Vincent Van Gogh, who puts so much movement in his paintings. Though I am a self-taught abstract artist, I too try to incorporate as much color, movement and texture into my art as possible. My hopes are that each person viewing my paintings feel moved, and the art is not just seen but felt.

In the last couple of years, my art has been noticed by more and more people. I have had my work shown in two of Dallas’ largest art shows, Conception Art Show and Chocolate and Art Show. Commissions keep me quite busy these days, and opportunities keep flooding in.

I have the most incredible and encouraging husband, a big supportive family, amazing friends, and other talented artists like Dallas’ own Christina Yielding cheering me on. I am so blessed and just really in awe of how far I have come. I give all glory to God for the creative talent he has given me and for the people and opportunities he has placed in my life! I hope my work brings as much joy to those seeing it as it does for me creating it. I am so excited for what’s to come!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I wouldn’t say it’s been smooth or challenging, really. I will say though, that as an up-and-coming artist, its taken a lot of work to get my name out there. That’s something I think will always take work, especially with all the other beautiful art being created in Dallas. I’m always focusing on making the next piece better than the last. Always searching for new opportunities, shows, and places for my artwork to be seen. It’s definitely a fun journey to be on! However, like any journey to success, it takes heart, work, and dedication.

We’d love to hear more about your art.
With Art by Sarah Lynn, you will find beautiful statement pieces that will brighten any room. I am known for whimsical type abstract paintings. I love incorporating lots of texture and movement into my art. The texture is key in my work. There is something so beautiful about art that almost pops off of the canvas. There are so many wonderful artists here in Dallas, but I think one thing that sets me apart is the heart behind my art. Ha, I’m also a poet it seems. Truly though, I pour my heart into everything I create and a piece of me is captured in every finished piece.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success for me just means having the guts to go out on a limb and pursue your dreams. I feel like fear of criticism can keep a person from taking that first step. I still struggle from time to time with the fear of not being good enough and having that devil on my shoulder tell me I can’t do it. However, the key to moving past self-doubt and towards success is to commit to always taking that next step towards a bigger end goal. My long time goal is to have a gallery space of my own.
