Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Maverick.
Hi Sarah, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Absolutely — I started like so many other female photographers I know. I was a mom who wanted beautiful photos of my daughter, but as a young mother working a little-better-than-minimum-wage office job, I couldn’t afford it. So I started on an old Olympus camera.
My husband bought me my first nice camera in 2011, and I never looked back. I think I was charging within six months. It felt destined — written in the stars.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think early on, my biggest struggle was balancing it all and trying to keep my family running smoothly while raising what eventually became three small kids.
When you’re an entrepreneur, you’re teaching yourself everything and learning in real time. And being an artist on top of that—having to turn something as free-flowing as creating art into a rigid business that demands constant perfection—can be quite overwhelming. You have to learn how to create on days you have no passion.
Deciding to turn this into a business is nothing short of a test in faith and a labor of love-and I wouldn’t really have it any other way.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a fine-art maternity and portrait photographer, and the founder of White Moth Gallery. My work blends editorial fashion with deeply human storytelling, creating cinematic, emotionally rich imagery that honors motherhood and family.
I’m known for my natural-light direction, my signature warm, earthy aesthetic, my beautiful skin tones, and my ability to help clients feel genuinely seen. What I’m most proud of is the safe, intentional space I create—where people walk in nervous and walk out feeling powerful and celebrated.
What sets me apart is treating photography as both art and legacy. Every session is crafted with purpose and reverence, meant to become heirloom artwork that outlives the moment.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I’m really inspired by voices that encourage courage, honesty, and grounding. I love Glennon Doyle, Elizabeth Gilbert, Oprah’s podcast, and Michelle Obama’s podcast — they each speak to different parts of my life as a mother, a woman, and a creative entrepreneur. I also listen to Abraham Hicks a lot, especially in the morning, to stay aligned and centered.
I will admit though… when I’m editing, Call Her Daddy is usually on.
Between those voices and the visual inspiration I pull from photography books and fashion editorials, I stay clear, inspired, and creatively fueled.
