Meet Sarah O’Connor of Sadiant Health

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah O’Connor.

Sarah, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am the oldest of three and grew up in Fort Worth. My younger sister, Leah Cooper, is a Registered Nurse and has spent her career working at major healthcare systems.. As a charge nurse, Leah experienced firsthand the frustrations of trying to fill a shift when a nurse would call in sick.

During a staffing shortage, Leah called multiple staffing agencies to request a nurse. This led to hours on the phone waiting for agencies to call their list of nurses, with no guarantee of fulfillment. Additionally, agencies are expensive which makes temporary nurses cost prohibitive. The result often was an understaffed shift and lower quality patient care. Leah knew there had to be a better way.

Leah knew that an app connecting the healthcare facility to the healthcare worker was the solution. Also, the technology replaces expensive recruiters so the healthcare professional is paid more and the facility is charged less! Leah knew she had a good idea, but lacked the business experience to create a company. She immediately reached out to me to see if I could help. With a TCU MBA and CFO experience, I began to make my sister’s dream a reality.

Critical to success was engaging the right tech company to make Leah’s vision for the app come to life We found Five Pack Creative, who is responsible match.com, American Airlines, and United Way apps and mobile web portals, and they have been a perfect fit!

Five Pack Creative agreed to help and after fundraising and a beta test with a large North Texas Healthcare system, Sadiant Health was born. Today Sadiant is staffing over 15 clinics in North Texas and is currently in negotiation with two large local healthcare systems.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been challenging and exciting all at the same time! The hardest part was getting funding for an idea when you don’t have a product to show. I personally emptied a retirement account to start funding and lots of friends and family who believed in the Sadiant Health solution contributed funding as well. We needed the upfront investment so we could create the technology and I’m proud to say we have built an amazing app as a result.

Sadiant Health is an app-based Healthcare Staffing agency. We are working to solve the nursing shortage crisis that greatly impacts DFW, among other issues that health systems are grappling with as patient volumes continue to increase. With Sadiant’s app, healthcare facilities can find nurses to fill shifts on demand. The Sadiant solution is different because we don’t have overhead fees to support a recruiting staff and pass the savings to healthcare facilities by charging about 25% less and paying the nurses up to 20% more.

Our healthcare professionals are happier because they control their schedules via the app and are paid more, the healthcare facilities are happier because they CHOOSE their nurses and pay less for their temporary workforce, and the patients ultimately win because they receive the proper care they deserve.

I am most proud of the positive feedback from our customers and the knowledge that Sadiant is making a difference in the nursing shortage crisis. In addition, we provide faster service by using technology to quickly connect the healthcare facilities to healthcare professionals, which allows the facility to focus on the day-to-day business operations. Everybody wins!

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Sadiant Health is focused on bringing our solution to as many healthcare professionals and healthcare facilities in DFW as we can. In 2018, we’ll remain focused on spreading throughout Texas and in 2019 we want to expand nationally. The possibilities are endless for the Sadiant solution!
