Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Eager.
Scott, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started out as a Chick-fil-A team member in a mall location in Panama City, Florida when I was 17 years old. About that time, my dad was retiring from the military and looking for a second career opportunity. At a franchise convention, he stopped by the Chick-fil-A table and mentioned that his son worked at a Chick-fil-A restaurant. A conversation ensued about the opportunities there and he became the Operator of the Chick-fil-A in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. I worked for my dad there through my senior year of high school and junior college.
After graduating from junior college, I was offered a job at the Chick-fil-A home office. I had worked there for about a year when Founder and CEO Truett Cathy, pulled me into his office and asked about my plans for the future. He offered me an opportunity to enroll in Berry College, where he was starting a program called WinShape, to finish my Bachelor’s degree. I served as a Resident Assistant while on campus. When I graduated, I applied for and was accepted into the Business Intern program, running corporate stores. After about a year, I applied for and was granted my own franchise in a mall in Coral Springs, Florida. I built that business for seven years before requesting to move my franchise to Dallas, Texas to a new, free-standing street location at Preston and Beltline in North Dallas. In 2003, I relocated my franchise to its current location in Southwest Plano.
Has it been a smooth road?
Along the way, there have been challenges such as moving from a mall location to a free-standing one, starting a new business in a new state, learning appropriate marketing tactics and coming up with new strategies to run a profitable business. Through the years, I have had to develop new strategies and management roles to grow with the business.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Chick-fil-A – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Atlanta-based Chick-fil-A is a family-owned restaurant company founded in 1967 by S. Truett Cathy. We are devoted to serving the local communities in which our franchised restaurants operate and are most well-known for our original chicken sandwich, our people, our quality of food and our speed of service.
I’m continuously proud of my staff and of winning a sales increase incentive in 1999, which was a new car. Our founder’s business model and our corporate purpose set us apart.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Professionally, I love how Dallas is friendly to businesses. Personally, I love Dallas because of the events and recreational opportunities available here. My only dislike is the extreme summer heat.
