Meet Scott Snellings of Snellings Law in Frisco

Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Snellings.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Scott. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I interned with a personal injury attorney after my junior year at Baylor University. After the first week, I knew that was what I wanted to do with my life. I witnessed firsthand how much injured individuals and families needed help to get through all of the issues that arise during a personal injury claim. After completing my internship, I took the LSAT and applied to law school. I ended up staying in Waco and attending Baylor Law School. After graduating, I went to work for a great Dallas firm doing products liability defense work. I represented automotive manufacturers, learned from great trial attorneys, and gained significant hands on experience with the trial process. After several years working for the defense firm, I decided it was time to strike out and begin helping injured individuals. In 2008, I co-founded a personal injury law firm and began doing just that. In September of 2017, I started my own law firm, Snellings Law, focused on helping seriously and catastrophically injured victims as well as families who have lost loved ones due to someone else’s negligence.

Has it been a smooth road?
A few months after starting Snellings Law, I underwent a kidney transplant. In 2008, I had been prescribed medication that had an adverse effect on my kidneys. Once the doctors realized what was going on, the damage had been done. My kidney function declined over the years to the point where insurance would finally pay for a transplant. My best friend, Jacob Thompson, volunteered to donate, and we were a match. One month before his wife was to give birth to their second child, Jacob was wheeled back to the operating room to give me his kidney.

This experience reinforced my desire/purpose in life to help others as they battled through injuries as well as those who have lost loved ones. The transplant also provided an invaluable opportunity to see many of the things that our clients go through. I have spoken to juries about pain, anguish, and loss many times. Now I do so through a new lens. I have a deeper empathy for our clients and can better understand many of the issues with which they struggle. The transplant has helped me to establish even deeper relationships with my clients, which in turn helps me to better advocate for them.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Snellings Law story. Tell us more about the business.
We are a personal injury law firm focused solely on helping victims who have been injured due to the negligence of another person or company. Our goal is provide not only exceptional results for our clients but also to make sure they are educated on the process from the very beginning. We have found that spending quality time with our clients from the very beginning helps them to relax and focus on healing. Most of our clients have never been through the personal injury process and have no idea how it works. By giving them a road map at the very first meeting, we aim to take away the fear of the unknown. We also help them to avoid costly pitfalls and traps awaiting them in the process. Our goal is to allow our client to fully focus on healing because we have taken the burden of dealing with the insurance company off their shoulders.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
As far as the legal industry in general, I think we have already seen big changes over the last several years with technology. Many law firms are not only going completely paperless, but they are going totally cloud based. This allows attorneys and their staff to be much more mobile. We have also seen an increase in virtual paralegals and virtual attorneys in response to the available technology. There have been huge developments in case management systems and automation. I think those areas will continue to be developed over the next several years and will allow attorneys to really solidify task flow and become better and more efficient. While I cannot necessarily tell you how, I can also foresee artificial intelligence playing a larger role in attorneys’ practices over the next decade.

As for the personal injury area, a huge topic of conversation is the movement towards autonomous vehicles. Obviously, if that comes to fruition, then that will significantly alter the personal injury practice. Healthcare is also a big area where change seems imminent. We deal with medical bills, health insurance, Medicare, etc. on a daily basis. A change in the system will force us to shift how we help our clients accordingly. Also, with fewer and fewer cases going to trial each year, I think each and every one of us who represent individuals is fighting to make sure our jury trial system is preserved in order to give everyone a fair chance to tell their story to a jury.
