Today we’d like to introduce you to Sélah.
Despite early involvement with making music from the 4th grade playing the trumpet and singing in the Classical choir, Sélah is just now maturing into his own customized pop sound and music.
Sélah was born and raised in Oak Cliff Texas, and graduated from Kimball High School. He is a believer in Christ, a factor that greatly influences his lyrics and music objectives- to make music that will help the current generation feel what true love used to be, away from the overly sexualized version today.
Sélah got carried away with the magic of music back in 6th grade when he led Kirk Franklin’s Lean on Me. Despite being a non-believer at the time, he loved every bit of it and has never been in doubt about his desire to pursue a music career. In 2011 when he moved out to LA for two years, he started song writing for other artists .Once he returned home his writing got even better and more personal.
Sélah doesn’t share the usual storyline of artists that get into the music industry early and hit it right off the bat. He didn’t feel the urge to get in immediately and so, he took the unfamiliar route of working a corporate job fund his craft. This ensured that he forays into the industry as a relaxed and accomplished. More importantly, it helped him make music of value since he is no hungry musician for fame and money but a passionate one that desires notary. It’s also a delight to have an Artist well versed in singing in English French, German and Spanish, a skill he picked up in college.
Sélah draws inspiration for his music from his Christian beliefs, his marriage and the true concept of love.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No it has not been a smooth road. However, my struggles have been my gift. I am a Christian artist that uses my music to honor God. Yet, being in the music industry many people want me to compromise my morals and the vision God gave me. I’ve been told not to tell my audience that I’m married so that I can allude to women that I am available along with other things. In this industry it is easy to compromise for many people but because I will not I have to do and redo a lot of things to ensure that the correct message is delivered.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Sélah – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am Sélah. I am a Christian artist and a songwriter. I write and produce my own songs that talk about my everyday life with God. What sets me apart is that my music does not sound like what is popular today. I blend rock, Christian, rhythm and blues and pop without following the current popular trends such as trap music. To date, I am most proud of my album The Recollection of Sélah. It is a story of me looking back at my life and sharing my story in a way that anyone off all ages can listen to. It is my sound, the style of music that set me apart from artist today. I make music for people to listen, relate to and to hear God in all ways.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My goal for the future is too create visuals for my music- Music videos.
