Today we’d like to introduce you to Senathia Johnson.

Senathia, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?

I have always been around people with that entrepreneurial spirit. This mostly comes from my father’s side of the family. I can remember being in high school, selling noni juice and candles to my friends. I learned very early that I am not into direct sales. However, I knew I had to find a product or service that worked for me and that I was passionate about.

To find this took several years… Or maybe it didn’t. It took me several years to recognize that I already had the tools that I needed to be my own boss. I was a unit secretary at a hospital when I was around 18 or 19 years old. I loved this job, making sure everyone had what they needed and calling most of the shots on the floor. It was great! But, I did not know how great it was until years later.

For about five years, I jump from job to job and I also started different businesses in between. Shall I say that none of those businesses worked out in my favor! Finally, I decided to go back to school to become a certified medical office specialist. Unfortunately, I have the certificate but I never did anything with it. By the time I got the certificate, I was making more money at my call center job then I would be making as a secretary. So, I stayed there working for eleven long years.

However, during that time life happened. I had a kid and it was time to make a change. I decided to try my hand at starting my own business again but this time I wanted to incorporate what I loved. I got on the internet and started searching and I came across virtual assistants or remote workers. That was all she wrote Major’s VA Solutions was born!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?

It is never easy starting a business. My main struggle was myself. I am an introvert so I wasn’t the one to go out to the meetups and shout it from the rooftops that I have this banging new business. However, if I wanted to make it I needed to change this and change it fast.

Do you know how many virtual assistants, entrepreneurs, freelancers, or whatever they want to call themselves are out there? Well, let me tell you there are a lot of entrepreneurs on the rise. This makes it harder to be seen because there are so many people looking for ways to make money from home.

Freelancing is becoming the next big thing to do for a side hustle. Continuously trying to find ways to stand out and show value is tough on its own. But to have to find a way to get out of my own way was a challenge all its own.

Please tell us about your work.

Major’s VA Solutions is my virtual assistant and accountability agency. I support and help black-owned business owners streamline, save time, and make more money. I provide them with administrative support geared to ensure that they have the proper systems, processes, and procedures in place, which will save them time so they can be on the front line to nurture and grow their business the way they want to. In turn, this also helps them increase revenue and clientele.

During my time as a virtual assistant, I have found out that most business owners don’t know how to set and complete their business goals. Therefore, I have expanded my business into an accountability agency.

Basically, I am an accountability partner for small business owners. I have to be clear on this! I am not your mentor or coach. I am not getting into your personal business but I will get into your business business.

This is the part of my business that set me apart from other virtual assistant businesses. I don’t just help you with your day to day business. I help you reach your ultimate business goals. I help you make your dreams come true! Side note: I am not always nice while doing this. However, you will love me when we are done.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?

If I had to start over, I would only start sooner. The things that I have been through to get to this point where necessary. I would not change any of the trials and tribulations that I went through to get here. We all live and learn. We go through different things at the time we need to go through them. My business has been a blessing and I am in the right place for now. However, I know there is more to come and I am ready for it.
