Today we’d like to introduce you to Sess Cannon.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Sess. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I moved to Texas from Peoria, Illinois January 5, 2016. I came to Texas December 6 of 2015 to visit a friend and ended up putting a deposit on a house, registering the kids in school and securing a position at a curly hair salon that was opening in Arlington in January. It was definitely a leap of faith that I know God had His hand in. In Illinois, I had a full clientele, created a hair product called Flourish Cream oil that was selling in beauty supply stores and online. I was doing well but I felt capped and I knew I needed more room to grow. So to Dallas we went! I moved with three kids and my husband and started working at the salon. I found out I was pregnant with my fourth child and started to worry about what I was going to do since I was trying to build a clientele in a new state! I just decided to trust God and go with the flow.
In the meantime, I focused on learning the natural hair market here in Dallas and started building a pretty solid clientele. The women here were looking for a natural hair stylist who focused on hair health and natural styling. I stopped working July 2016 to go on maternity leave and by November when I decided to open my suite, my books were full for nine months out. Within a year, I was able to expand to a double room but I had to stop taking clients because my books were at capacity. I started holding workshops to accommodate clients but it was still a huge overflow. So I wrote up a training manual to teach other stylists the formula that I used to become a six-figure stylist in less than three years in a new state with zero clientele. I looked for stylists, trained them for 6-8 weeks on my system, then opened Flourish Curls Salon November 12, 2019. I have two licensed stylists that are now FLOURISHING!! My product is also selling in the salon and doing well and now it’s time to add more stylists and keep building careers. So I’m on the lookout to hire three more stylists and add a second location by summer!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No way. It’s been a road full of praying, working, learning, investing and believing. The biggest struggle was changing my mindset and not limiting where my business could go and what I’m capable of.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Flourish Curls Salon – what should we know?
Flourish Curls Salon was purely built off of prayer and strong belief. I studied what it was that brought me success in this industry and I wanted to help others do the same. I opened Flourish Curls Salon to grow more stylists in the area of natural hair care and styling. We service professional women with natural hair by educating them about haircare practices, care and maintenance while providing them with a natural style that is both professional and protective. But not only that, most styles are done in less than 2 hours from start to finish and there is no double booking, so that means no wait time! The thing I’m most proud about is that Flourish is providing opportunities for other women to flourish in their careers and helping them reach their capacity personally and professionally through and environment that fosters growth.
