Today we’d like to introduce you to Setara Monzon and Kat Diesel.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
We discovered the fellow creative entrepreneur in each other and it really motivated us in our other businesses. Kat was focusing on her event company and music management and I was working on my jewelry line. We were working together before we ever thought of opening a business. We created our own small events to promote one another and build up other female entrepreneurs and thoughtfully created The Velvet Goddess Boutique. We started with a clothing rack and dream. Now we are your neighborhood vintage dealers!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
We’ve been fortunate enough to not have any obstacles we can’t see past. Having two determined creatives can do wonders for business! We take a challenge as a learning curve and grow from it.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
The Velvet Goddess Boutique caters to women who express themselves through personal style. Velvet, fur, feathers, sequin and silk styles blended in a modern take on moody vintage street glamour to invoke the goddess in you.
We specialize in quality vintage with a pop of glam, focusing on styles from the 60’s and 70’s. We also offer wardrobe rentals for photo/video shoots etc. as well as custom jewelry pieces.
What were you like growing up?
Setara: Growing up I would always find myself creating, painting, writing poems and songs and cutting up clothes to turn them into something else and see how they were made. I’ve always valued authenticity and originality.
Kat: Growing up my mom had me in all kinds of activities from ice skating & soccer to break dancing & cheerleading. I assisted my grandparents and mother in selling their collectibles and vintage finds. I was able to multitask solo and on a team at a young age. I applaud my family for showing me what it takes to be an entrepreneur.
