Meet Seth Adams of Adams “At-Home” Kempo in Denton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Seth Adams.

Seth, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I had always been involved in Martial Arts in some form since I was 3, be it teaching or learning. When I moved to Texas to pursue a Masters Degree in Business Administration, I stopped teaching and began working for a business in Frisco, where I worked on children’s motor skill development. The stars aligned when that location closed its doors and I realized no others schools in the area taught the same style of Karate as I did. I decided it was the perfect opportunity to start my own Martial Arts school with a twist. I bring the lessons to my students!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I began in April of 2016, and distributed between six and seven hundred flyers promoting my new business, to people, bulletin boards, other small businesses and more. I didn’t have my first student until August, which made for a discouraging few months. Needless to stay, a person or company needs to be very trustworthy in order for a customer to pay them to come to their own home and work with their children. As I began to get more pictures and videos of proof that I was benefiting customer’s well-being instead of being a threat, people began to buy into the idea!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Adams “At-Home” Kempo – what should we know?
I travel to my students and teach fun Karate and other Martial Arts classes at their convenience, through memberships, self-defense classes, birthday parties and public events! While there are plenty of knowledgeable and successful Martial Arts instructors in the area, I am the only to professionalize the experience of true convenience for my customers, by coming to their own homes.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I have had plenty of family and friends help me gain interest through word of mouth about my fun new way of teaching Karate, and they ALL deserve a shout out! My first group of students also helped me gain a lot of traction in the area and really gave me the boost I needed to better market Adams Kempo. Another group that gave me a big hand was the Denton Community Market, who allowed me to teach free classes for them, in order to gain exposure for the business.
