Meet Shada Ghatrehee of The Dog House of Frisco

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shada Ghatrehee.

Shada, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have loved and had a passion for animals since I was a little girl. I now own three Germans Shepherds, a long haired chihuahua, three horses, a donkey, and some chickens. I thought long and hard about my career after graduating from UNT with my bachelor degree. I was a manager at my dad’s hair salons when I realized I wanted to open my own business. Due to my love for animals, I went back to school for dog grooming and instantly fell in love with creating unique and fun hair styles on every dog.

Has it been a smooth road?
At first, opening up a new business was pretty difficult. There were many ups and downs. I have been extremely blessed throughout my career of dog grooming. I am about to celebrate my four years of being open this May. I have had many struggles throughout my four years. The building we work in is a historical building in Frisco which was built nearly 100 years ago! I have encountered air-conditioning problems, several plumbing issues, and clients backed up nearly a month out. Currently I am dealing with all the Covid 19 virus regulations which has slowed down business some but Texas has done a great job of attempting to open businesses back up.

Please tell us about your business.
The Dog House is a dog grooming business in the old down town Frisco. We also have a small retail section in our lobby where we sell unique, one of a kind item. I am not just the owner but I also work as the in house dog groomer. I love coming up with new ideas and creating fun hairstyles for pets. A few things that set me apart from my competition is that I strive to give every client and dog the best experience they can possibly receive. I treat every fur baby like my own no matter what condition they are in. This has been recently added as our mission statement for the business. At my shop I work on one dog at a time which means I am only appointment based so that dogs are not sitting in crates for hours. Typically, dogs are out of the shop within 1-2 hours from when they arrive. I take pride in my shop. I love to decorate during the holidays and keep the place as neat as possible. I am always adding new items and switching things around to make sure clients don’t see the same items every time they come it. It helps gives people a reason to stick around and look at all the different items the shop has to offer.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Frisco is one of the fastest-growing cities in the nation. It was named the best place to live in America by Money magazine in 2018. The economy is booming with a wonderful public school systems, great neighborhoods. and tasty restaurants. Several headquarters are located here in Frisco such as The Star which is home to the Dallas Cowboys, the Dr Pepper Star Center which is home to the Dallas Stars, Toyota Stadium which is home to the FC Dallas soccer club, and the Dr Pepper Ballpark which is home to the Frisco Roughriders baseball team.
