Today we’d like to introduce you to Shalona Simpson.
Shalona, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Fashion? My mom and fashion were best friends and growing up overweight in the 80’s with very few options and plenty of ideas! I started creating looks for myself as early as nine. My mom would fly to different states to find looks and items that I wanted to look trendy and age appropriate so I began to repurpose, and alter clothes to create styles that I loved and that were flattering to my body! People would always want to know where they could get my unique pieces. My family and friends knew they could count on me for deals, fashion tips and unique looks that made a statement! As I got older when I traveled abroad and to different cities as well as thrifting I would find pieces, mix and match them with whatever worked and a statement was made! Nothing has changed! I have worn every size from a 24-8 so I have expertise on all shapes and body types. It’s a unique experience!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been 100% easy. I had to ask God to lead me in my purpose and put me on the right path to succeed and he did! He has given me all tools needed to survive and excel and I am nothing short of grateful.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Unique And Unorthodox story. Tell us more about the business.
I am a published stylist and model. Personal stylist/shopper.
Closet correct: I style you with items you have, assist you in coordinating staple pieces and more! I create looks for every occasion, season, and budget! I create custom looks for less. I create head to toe makeovers.
I am most proud when my customers cannot control their smiles! I am happy when I am responsible for changing and making a person feel pretty inside out!
