Hi Shalonda, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a southern girl born and raised in Terrell, a small country town east of Dallas, TX. I am an Occupational Therapist servicing for over 10+ years. I’ve begun baking at an early age, which became a hobby in 2013. I’ve always enjoyed cooking and baking with my mom, watching her make cakes, cookies, pies, you name it. I am a self-taught baker and have a home-based business in Forney, Texas. I began taking classes at Michael’s as a beginner as well as watching YouTube videos and taking classes from area bakers in the DFW. Some may ask why the name Sweet’s Therapy Bakery, I came up with the name integrating two passions I love – making sweets and being a therapist. I wanted something catchy and not cliche. I wanted my customers to rehab their tastebuds one bite at a time with my delectable treats. Never in my wildest dreams would I think I would be creating desserts for people. All I wanted to do was learn how to ice a cake and that’s it… lol.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My biggest obstacle was going back and forth on pursuing baking as a business venture. I always had a fear of the “What is, or what if I fail.” With much support from friends and family encouraging me to start; In 2018, I made it official to start my brand. It has been hard juggling being a mom, full-time employee, and managing orders, but I make it work. I am very thankful for all of my customers and supporters; this what keeps me pushing.
The pandemic was a difficult time for me as it halted celebrations, so limited orders were coming in; however, I was still working in the health care industry during this time. This allowed me to reorganize, plan, and set goals for my cake business.

At Sweets Therapy Bakery, I offer services in the DFW metroplex and surrounding cities. We offer custom cakes, cupcakes, desserts, wedding cakes, celebration cakes to tailor each customer’s request.

I am a foodie, so I love checking out new and established restaurants in the DFW area.
