Today we’d like to introduce you to Shanice Jackson.
Shanice, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started my women’s organization based off me and my son both being survivors of domestic violence. I watched my dad abuse numerous of his girlfriend’s right in front of us, but I never thought in a million years that we would one day share the same story. The story of being abused by a man that we were so madly in love with who we thought loved us too. My dad’s words when I told him I was being abused was” I never thought you would go through the same thing I put your mother through”.
I HEALED myself first because it was necessary after that I knew I wanted to help other woman and men heal from being emotionally, physically, and mentally abused. For you to understand it you must go through it. I started my organization in March of 2018. I’ve had three women conferences since then in three different states. My first conference was in Arlington and I planned everything in one month literally with $50 to my name, but I trusted God. My second conference was in Little Rock Arkansas and my third one was Atlanta. Every conference I held has taught me “Don’t despise small beginnings”.
Has it been a smooth road?
This journey with starting my organization hasn’t been easy at all. I think that it has taught me a lot about people and how they move. Life is about growth and growth is a part of every process. I lost some friends I gained some either way life goes on lol literally. Nothing in life is going to be handed to you if you really want it you know you got to grind for it right! Life has its good days and bad sometimes the bad outweighs the good, but you can’t give up. You must keep going because it is always someone who is looking up to you.
Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. I know that he is going to make every crooked road straight and I know if nobody has my back GOD does, I know he won’t let me down. It’s always light at the end of tunnel no matter how long it takes our timing isn’t His timing, but God is always on time.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Right now, I am continuing to provide healing through my women conferences that I have. I have clients daily that need my help from resources to leave an abusive situation and just needing someone to talk to. I have a full-time job, but my current job knows that Women Of Tenacity is a priority. I’m working on opening my own women’s shelter for battered women.
I want to be able to provide them the assistance I once needed to leave immediately because everyone doesn’t have a mother or a family member they can live with until they get themselves together. I am most proud of being able to heal my mom from the abuse that she went through with my dad 20 plus years ago to have her support is amazing that is my best friend.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I wouldn’t do anything differently I love the woman that I am becoming. Regardless of who doesn’t like it or love it, I’m not here looking for approval from one single person. I’m no longer apologizing for my growth. I’m dedicating my next best move to my son because he saved both of us without him, we wouldn’t have made it.
