Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharif Abboud.
Sharif, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My journey began in 2004, after realizing that the “business world” just wasn’t for me, I took a fitness job as a personal trainer at the Town North YMCA. I trained for three years before being promoted to Fitness Director where I held that position for another two before deciding to test the “Dallas fitness waters”. From 2009-2016 I trained for two other companies, although I loved what I was doing, I just felt like something was missing.
My big break in the industry came in 2011. I loved the Dallas Mavericks and was a season ticket holder for two years. I decided to approach them about a position I knew they didn’t have, Head Trainer for the Dallas Mavericks Dancers. I took the risk and offered my services for free for an entire season to prove myself and it worked. I trained the team from 2011-2016 while continuing to work my other two jobs. SOMETHING WAS STILL MISSING.
My wife and I decided to go “all in” and try our hand at gym ownership. We built Evolve in downtown Dallas in 2017 and the rest, as they say, is history.
Has it been a smooth road?
The road has been everything BUT smooth. It’s a very competitive industry with extremely long hours, physically taxing and emotionally demanding. The daily grind of trying to make a name for yourself is the hardest part because everyone in the city is doing the exact same thing. Someone is working when you’re not, so you constantly have to be on top of your game.

We are a full-service gym located in the heart of downtown Dallas. We specialize in the Met45 training program, our very own athletically driven training concept exclusive to Evolve. What I am most proud of is the very thing that I believe sets us apart from others, the family environment and the community involvement. In our 24 months of being open, we’ve held 25 charity events and for that, I am extremely proud!
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I believe Evolve is exactly what the city of Dallas needs. Over the years this city has become saturated with aesthetically driven “concept” boutiques and I feel that our little gym offers the perfect contrast to that. Dallas is one of the fastest-growing cities in the country so there’s going to be a lot of competition regardless of the business. If you feel that you have a product that can not only survive but flourish in those conditions, then this is the perfect city to be in.
