Meet Gwenna Roberts of Sharky’s Bar and Grill in Far North Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gwenna Roberts.

Amanda is a service industry professional and Gwenna is retired from the oil business. Both of them loved their neighborhood bar, Sharky’s. The previous owners were not paying it the love and attention it needed, so a price was negotiated and they were off! With a “pro” and some “dough”, they knew its past glory could be restored. Not much was changed – as they love their little bar – they scrubbed it clean, boosted staff morale, concentrated on the kitchen.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Our motto? Focus on solutions, not the problems. And with an aging building, problems are a daily challenge. From plumbing to technology updates, our handyman skills are constantly being honed.

Sharky’s Bar and Grill – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Sharky’s is more than a few sentences can sum up, there’s an aura about it that’s more than just a bar. We are a community; a home away from home.

Over the years, our patrons have celebrated and grieved together, been introduced and gotten married, and travelled the world in groups from the bar. It’s the place you come after work to share your day with people that care. Job networking the unique shape of the bar encourages conversation. It’s difficult to sit at the bar and not make friends.

And if you’re bored here, you’re not doing it right! With 9 pool tables, ping pong, shuffleboard, darts, tiki toss, Golden Tee golf, Super Strike bowling, NTN trivia, Atari multi-cade and Mega-Touch coin op machines, there is certainly plenty to do. We also have a heated-in-winter smoking patio.

While we are not a shiny new bar. We are an institutional serving the neighborhood for almost 30 years.

We’ve supported our staff – keeping them on track to finish their college degrees just like a room full of parents.

We call Sharky’s home, and now that we are the owners, we are honored to carry on the tradition that is Sharky’s.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
We want to ensure our staff is well-compensated and fulfilled, our vendors are paid on time and that every patron through our doors has a great time and makes new friends.
