Hi Sharmaine, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Our Anu Naturalz story began when my husband Darrylle, and I started our own holistic health journey after he received a diagnosis of a tumor on his pituitary gland. This led to us doing research on products that contained medicinal properties that were holistic. Before we knew it our kitchen doubled as a science lab, a conduit for excellent creations. As parents to five amazing boys, we always think about how they can benefit. One of our sons has eczema, so because of this certain everyday-use products that contained steroids did not work well with his skin. Our next mission became to create all-natural deodorant and body butter to help ensure that he could use quality products without all the extra unhealthy additives. Then, people in our life circles started inquiring about the products and soon we were creating consistent product for them too.” Anu means new beginnings or new life, so therefore we came up with Anu Naturalz. We launched Anu Naturalz during the pandemic, September 2020 to be exact. Honestly, when we think about it, it’s mind-blowing that we are coming up on two years! In such a short amount of time, we’ve managed to consistently release new products on our lineup, our clientele started locally and now we’ve grown our customer base across America, and even introduced a couple of celebrities to our products. Shortly after, we received a tremendous amount of support via media platforms. As Darrylle and I continue to strategize and market our business, our aim is to develop a plethora of facial serums and facial creams. Shortly thereafter expanding our brand by collaborating with other small businesses in the community. Ultimately, we plan to tap into an international market meeting the needs of a broader, diverse clientele, Anu Naturalz is truly for everyone.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Has it been a smooth road? – Absolutely not lol. Considering we started during the pandemic, and we are first time as business owners. We had to learn a few things along the way to help us grow and cultivate our company. There were a few things we did not know coming into the entrepreneurship world. We were literally shaped by our ability to keep trying after trial and error. For example, the pandemic made it hard when it came to shipping, locating, and receiving supplies, but we were forced to learned how to maximize. The things you learn in business such as marketing, finances, and of course customer satisfaction (reviews) are all major pieces of the puzzle that we didn’t consider at the starting lineup when we decided to launch Anu Naturalz. One of our defining moments came after the release of our new body butter. One of the first shipments of body butter melted because we’d yet to perfect packaging. Our customers were very understanding; however, my husband and I agreed our brand would be built on integrity and consistency. So, we refunded all the customers purchased more supplies, and sent out all-new product free of charge, including covering all shipping costs. As a small business, especially one that utilizes ONLY natural supplies, which are very costly because you must ensure preservation of the product. This was a make-or-break moment for us, and Darrylle & I chose to rise to the occasion as business owners. Therefore, that’s why I believe our customers continually support Anu Naturalz.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Darrylle and I are both Nurses professionally, I believe this is where we got our passion to help people. We are known to be the nurses that go over and above to help our patients. We wholeheartedly believe in the holistic lifestyle and treating people through a holistic approach. Before we started Anu Naturalz, what helped us begin our natural care brand was our ability to research and create products to help people in our circle through holistic remedies. Being in the medical field Darrylle and I know firsthand as nurses that sometimes the profession doesn’t seek to help, but to band-aid the situation, and we desired to help change the person from the inside out. This propels us to continually research and discover the purest ingredients that are holistic not just in name, but in scientifically-proven action when tested. I believe what sets us apart from others is we’re truly open, especially after Darrylle’s Tumor battle. That required us to breakout of our comfort zone of the “traditional medicine approach and really research and seek out options that were closer to our belief of holistic living. Furthermore, the beautiful thing about our products is they are person-centered. They do exactly what they say they will do without all the extra harmful additives. I am most proud of our growth and how we started, and just the level of love and appreciation for our brand. People have just gravitated to our products, and they genuinely love them. For me, knowing that we have been blessed to make such a monumental impact in such a short amount of time is what motivates us to keep growing as a company. I genuinely love that we haven’t lost our passion for the business, and we’ve kept our promise to ourselves to be brand owners that strive for excellence and operate with an integrity mindset. That continues to make me proud, we stand by our products, and we truly believe in them and what they can do for people.
