Today we’d like to introduce you to Shaun Rao.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Right after college I interned with a wedding planner, which gave me full insight how an event takes place. From there I was fascinated watching an event designer put together a bride’s vision to life with elements they can gather. To gain more experience in field I later then worked with an event design firm to refine my skills as a designer and as a producer.
I launched RAOFACTOR three years ago because I didn’t believe in limiting a bride based on their budget or only pushing through “cookie-cutter” designs.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Has it been a smooth road? Definitely not! Many people I know or know of have developed their companies of funding they have received. Even my previous employer was able to start their business with large help from their family business and network.
Starting a company from the ground up with no seed money is truly a challenge. To this day I am forever grateful for my clients who believed in me my first year and truly trust me for one of the biggest days of their life. Since I was my sole employee, I traveled everywhere. I was also newly married and it was very tough to travel and being away from my wife and dog for extended periods of time.

Although we also travel across the nation on various projects we hope to open design studios on either coast! We recently expanded our staff and moved to a larger warehouse.
