Meet Shauntay of TheGlamKitchen in Far North Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shauntay.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started out just being someone even as a child that loved to dine out as well as watch my mother cook. I was an only child so I grew up eating adult like foods very early so I didn’t want a hotdog at the age of nine, I wanted a full course meal. As I got older, I enjoyed making meals for my loved ones and that love eventually led me to decide to volunteer for a homeless shelter to prepare meals in May of 2018 because I felt led to give back using something that I love to do. Doing that honestly let me know that my food was good to other people because the residents raved about every meal I made, not just the family and loved ones I was cooking for. I went through a job loss in July of 2018 that left me on unemployment and with a lot of free time. It was during that time that I decided I wanted to start a food blog because so many people for years had been asking me for recipes of things I posted. I had no idea how to blog but I consumed books and videos about it and just decided to take the leap of faith. October 2018 was the month I started the blog and moved to Texas for a new job offer, and the rest just flowed from there

Has it been a smooth road?
The road certainly has not been smooth. Some people can know their purpose easily and everything flows smoothly. But for me, God had to use trials to push me into my calling. Had I not been through betrayal and job loss, I honestly would’ve never had the push that I needed to start my blog, move to a new state alone, and write books. There truly is beauty in the struggle though, because it’s in the struggle that you learn who you are. So ultimately, I now thank God for what he allowed because I’m seeing the fruit of those trials now. He had a plan all along, and even though some things may have hurt-ultimately they all were just what he was using me to get me where I really needed to be

We’d love to hear more about your business.
My business is called TheGlamKitchen and it is a food blog that inspires millennial women to become more comfortable in the kitchen. On my blog (www.theglamkitchen.com), I share recipes bi-weekly and on my social media page, I share food inspiration and kitchen tips and tricks. I specialize in comfort food and cocktails that you can make at home. Most of the $100 per person steakhouse meals that you can eat at a fine dining restaurant can be made at home for less than half of that. The thing that I am most proud of with my brand is that I get to help men and women build confidence in the kitchen. It’s so rewarding to receive emails, DMs, and comments from my supporters about how they or their loved ones enjoyed a recipe they made from my blog. The thing that sets my blog apart from the other food blogs is my style of cooking and fun in the kitchen. I don’t just stick to one type of food I share everything from American, Caribbean, Italian, Tex Mex, etc -all while sipping a cocktail and blasting great music in my kitchen. I love that I can just be myself with my audience, and the fact that I’m not trying to be something else is what I think attracts people to my brand

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I have only been in Dallas, for now, eight months, but I do feel like this city is a great place for a business like mine. For people that are starting out here, I would recommend whatever field you’re in to find a community through social media that supports that. Usually through hashtags, meetups, or just by going out you can meet people who are in a similar field as you are. A city is just about as good as your networking skills are. If you don’t leave your house or make any outreach efforts using your social media to others in your niche or field, then you can’t expect things to come to you.
