Today we’d like to introduce you to Shaunte Blake.
Shaunte, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
SinSational Sweet Treats, LLC came alive in December 2018.
I’ve always dreamed of owning my own business one day. It was during my college years at Stephen F. Austin State University I really set out to begin this dream of mine. During a summer break before I began my internship in social work, I worked at daycare on campus. I baked from my apartment and would provide my cupcakes to the staff at the daycare to attempt to get my name out to the public. Everyone there loved my cupcakes. My semester of internship began and I put baking on hold as I focused on my degree and graduating. Oh, not to mention I was planning a wedding. After graduating college with my bachelor’s degree, I married the love of my life and we relocated to Arlington, TX from Nacogdoches/Lufkin area. Life began for us shortly afterwards. We are a party of three now.
Planning for our daughter’s 1st birthday I, of course, went overboard with the cake, cookies, and cupcakes. Her second birthday came around and again, I went above and beyond with her cake and cookies. Third birthday came around and I began planning to pay for her cake and cookies “overboard again.” It was then my husband asked me “why can’t you make her cake and other treats”? It never dawned on me honestly. My husband told me that he knew I could do this same job I was paying another person to do. It was because of my husband I really started to think this master plan. I told my husband I wanted to make cake pops for our daughter’s basketball team to put in the treat bags for the kids. Needless to say, they were a hit. I began to feel so confident with just my first attempt and a little YouTube teaching that my husband and I decided to host a Christmas pop up shop in my home town Tyler, TX. We created a little over 200 cake pops and sold out within 30 minutes of the pop-up shop. I received tons of support and it was then I began building my brand for my customers. I’ve been truly blessed and humbled by this experience and opportunity that God presented to me and my family. I can say for our daughters 4th birthday, I made all of her treats which included unicorn themed cupcakes, chocolate dipped Oreos, pretzels and cake pops. Her classmates were super excited. SinSational Sweet Treats has now been up and running going on seven months. I am now adding cakes to the menu and the family is super excited as I just created my first birthday cake for a loyal customer of mine. I, one day, plan to open my own storefront in the near future so that my customers have a place to really call home.
SinSational Sweet Treats offers a variety of treats dipped in chocolate and like I said, cakes have been added to the menu. I look forward to the continued support of the community and my customers. Contact SinSational Sweet Treats for your sweet tooth needs!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Every business has it’s high and lows. Business can sometimes be very slow for me and other times, I can get anywhere from 2 to 5 orders in a week. But it’s all in timing as I strive to make this business grow and get my name out in the community. For the most part, it’s been a smooth road. And it only gets better with God’s timing.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the SinSational Sweet Treats story. Tell us more about the business.
SinSational Sweet Treats, LLC is a local business that specializes in a variety of treats dipped in chocolate. I offer cake pops, pretzels, Oreos, strawberries, apples, marshmallows, cupcakes, and cakes. I would say I’m primarily known for my delicious cake pops. I am most proud of the loyal customers who continue to return for business and also their referrals. What sets me apart is that I’ve never taken any baking classes or even have a culinary degree and I’ve basically self-taught myself throughout this process. Other businesses have storefronts and I am a home-based business (for right now).
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t believe in luck. However, I do believe in blessings. My life, in general, has been filled with bountiful blessings and God has shown up and showed out for me and my business. I come from a family of bakers and great cooks. My father owns his own business and has instilled a drive within myself and my siblings. My oldest sister owns her own business designing customer shirts and accessories and my younger brother owns his own clothing line. I call these things blessings. Prayer and faith have played a major role in my life and business.
