Meet Shayne Morrissey of Morrissey Home Solutions in Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shayne Morrissey.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I had a fascination with homes and interior design ever since I was a boy. By the age of 15, I knew I wanted to be an interior designer. I was lucky enough to find my calling very early in life. When I was growing up, I would negotiate with my parents in order to get allowances to redo my bedroom. After high school, I moved to Dallas where I got my Bachelor’s degree in interior design from the Art Institute of Dallas.

The market was still somewhat recessed when I graduated college in 2012, so I took temporary work at one of the showrooms in the World Trade Center. There, I met my boss and got my first gig at a furniture and interior design showroom. I gained a lot of experience and learned to furnish and style homes, which oddly enough, is something they don’t teach you in school. I liked certain aspects of my job, but I wanted to have my hands in every part of the design process, and I felt the need to be more invested in my work.

After months of convincing myself to step out of my comfort zone, I took a leap of faith and went to work for my dad’s remodeling business in February 2014. By the end of that year, I had developed a concept for a design focused remodeling company. I pitched this idea to my dad, and he was immediately on board. Together, my father and I founded Morrissey Home Solutions. I believe good design and beautiful living environments make a positive difference in our clients’ lives and I wanted our work to be impactful.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been amazing and surprising, and everything but smooth! Merging residential construction and interior design is not without its challenges.

One thing I found early on is that the construction industry is largely lacking attention to detail and accountability- We work hard to find those select individuals who value their work and love what they do.

We are always looking for the best tradespeople in Fort Worth to continue improving our business and to expand our reach. The construction process requires constant reinforcement and a lot of management.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Morrissey Home Solutions – what should we know?
Morrissey Home Solutions addresses the interior design and home remodeling processes in tandem. Remodeling can be a stressful process for clients, so we try to alleviate that through managing design selections and managing construction.

We work closely with our clients to ensure that the result of their home design & remodel is custom tailored to their individual needs. Additionally, we offer custom furniture and window treatment selection & procurement, so we really are a one-stop-shop for all things related to residential remodeling and interior design.

I have learned from experience that design and remodeling go hand-in-hand. You really can’t do one well without doing the other one well, and that’s why my team is committed to an all-inclusive approach to home remodeling & interior design.

We have the ability to furnish homes anywhere, and that has been an exciting and new development for our company! We recently completed a furniture install in Austin, and we are looking forward to taking more furniture projects in other cities.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I largely attribute my success to my relationship with my clients. My company does very little advertising, so I am very proud to say that my business is built on loyal and satisfied clients. There are so many people who have supported me along the way.

I have been very fortunate to have a dedicated team of managers and contractors working for me. They are always willing to learn and accept challenges, and as an entrepreneur, you appreciate that in your employees.
