Meet Shedrick Collins of The Blasé Company

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shedrick Collins.

Shedrick, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Blasé Co. has been my outlet to express not only my fashion interest but also my personal hardships and endeavors. Everything started in May 2019 when my mom started her custom t-shirt business. She would pay me to help her fulfill some orders on her Cricut machine. Soon enough, I found myself buying apparel canvases to put some of my own custom work on. Soon enough, I decided I wanted to start my own clothing brand; thus, Blasé & Co. was founded. I put out my first collection and did mostly local pickups and soon came to a stop when I started battling depression in August after the death of a close friend. I revamped in May of 2020 with my Mental Wealth collection, which was my ultimatum for expressing my emotions for what I had just overcome. “Check On Your Strong Friends” was the message I wanted to press because I’ve always been a strong friend, and in one of my lowest moments, it felt like no one had my back. Fast forward to the current time, we have seen over 30k in sales and have sold over 1000 products in the U.S, Canada, and Africa.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest struggle has been growing pains. Losing money and time on investments. Learning more about retail customer service, which is something I was used to, but definitely a challenge when it is your personal business and you’re learning to deal with each customer accordingly. Besides that, every L has been a lesson worth learning.

The Blasé Company – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are a small business retail clothing company that aims to progressively move forward in women’s and men’s street fashion. We supply clothing to keep fashion clean and affordable and while doing so we focus on sending a bigger message. What we stand for is love, peace, and awareness, three traits that society should reconcile with. We are all about bringing people together of different cultures to fulfill what God has truly called for us to do. What sets us apart is that we not only try to connect through clothing, but we provide actions in the community through service and leadership. We value giving back to the city and showing love to those who support us.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career has been the lives I’ve touched in many ways. In specific it’s been the testimonies and small messages of clarification that I’m doing God’s work. The return of having someone tell you that your story is the small crutch they needed to get up and tell theirs, no amount of money could ever compare, I’m thankful that I can let my trials be the light for someone else, and that is what I am proudest of.
