Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherman “WoRm” Johnson.
Sherman, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
WoRm began his music career at the age of ten and has been rapping and producing ever since. With over 14 years of musical experience, WoRm has been featured in multiple publications throughout OKC such as The Oklahoma Gazette, Look at OKC, and The Oklahoman. WoRm has also released a slew of projects including Chicken N Waffles, Bench Allstars, which was featured in the Oklahoma Gazette, and Shoebox Full. In 2015, Worm founded his own record label Super Dope Quotes and began to work with artists such as $onrae, Grand National, and L.T.Z. WoRm makes music because it is therapeutic to him and he wants to use his God given gifts and talents to give people that same feeling that making music gives him. WoRm wants to inspire the next generation of musicians and creators. With one of the strongest work ethics in the music industry and amazing musical talent, WoRm shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
Has it been a smooth road?
I’ve been blessed to have been doing music as long as I have, but the biggest struggle I’ve have to deal with is my ego or thinking that the grass is greener. Seeing peers doing things you want to do, getting shows you want to be on, you start to question if you have what it takes. You start to question am I really good or do people just like me for the personality? I’m learning that it’s all about patience, learning to be content but persistent with where you are on your music journey. You have to count the wins and know what Is for you is for you.
Super Dope Quotes – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Super Dope Quotes is an Artist services company. I provide audio services like production, mixing and mastering. I specialize in Hip-Hop/R&B music. I’m mostly known for my production. What I’m proud of are the musical projects that I’ve been a part of recently. In the last year Artist like “L-1-3”, “$onrae”, “Changing Frequencies”, and “Grand National” let me produce, mix and master their albums and they are really good bodies of work. I’m also proud that I’m able to provide quality work that is affordable to the artist. I feel what sets me apart from others is I have an old soul approach when it comes to starting the music but I’m able to modernize the sound giving you something different.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
The thing I like Dallas is for me it’s a change a scenery for me from OKC, and most big acts will pass through Dallas before OKC. It feels like a home away from home. If I’m in Ft Worth I like going to the Jubilee Theater. The only thing that’s hindering Dallas/Texas is that weed isn’t legal yet. But I digress.
