Meet Sherman Young Jr.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherman Young Jr.

Hi Sherman, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Fort Worth, Texas, and raised just 15 min west in Aledo. Out in the country, there is not much to do other than put quarters on the railroad tracks, crash go-karts, and play football. After knocking those 3 out rather quickly I found myself making sketch comedy videos starting in 3rd grade. This then turned into music videos, short films, multiple YouTube channels (before it was cool), and so on. I studied film and graduated with a degree in Corporate Communications from Baylor University. My first jobs in film were PA’ing different projects. Most notably, The Hate U Give and The Irishman. On those sets, I realized that I wanted to work in film for the rest of my life. However, I wanted to bring that industry to my hometown of Fort Worth. I began that journey as a freelance videographer in Fort Worth. Currently, I am blessed to say I am able to continue that goal with my new opportunity to work for Red Productions.

Red Productions has been servicing the community of Fort Worth and beyond for over the past 20 years. It was a no-brainer that I wanted to work alongside the best that Texas has to offer in visual storytelling and entertainment. Red Productions has its hand in many cookie jars throughout the film/art community in DFW. It is my job to help continue the great work that Red Prod has already done. To continue to foster our relationships with small business owners, large clients, artists, musicians, entrepreneurs, and more! We are here to help everyone broadcast their brand, product, service, or passion to the world. No job too big; no client too small!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
For anyone that is pursuing their dreams in any medium of art/entrepreneurship, I would give the following advice. I by no means am a master at my craft or a Ted Talk quality speaker in pursuit of dreams. However, the main obstacle I faced with getting my career started was actually STARTING. I constantly had an excuse of why I could start tomorrow, or next week, or next month, etc… It doesn’t have to be a strictly regimented schedule or some book or class you have to pay for. Just wake up each and every day knowing you will accomplish one thing that will get you closer to your goals. It can be as simple as buying some brushes for an artist or booking a guitar lesson for an aspiring musician. I was often my own worst enemy when it came to getting started down a path towards a career in film. It’s scary to chase your passions, but all we need is a bit of confidence to push us in the right direction. Once you overcome a fear of failure or acceptance then any task (win or lose) can become an accomplishment or a lesson to learn from. The other greatest bit of knowledge I learned was “Ask for help” & “Make friends”. So many individuals (within the arts community especially) love to help others learn and grow. Don’t be afraid to ask others for help, or advice along the way. I try to do this all the time!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am the Account Executive at Red Production. It’s my job to connect with people and connect people in the world of digital media/visual storytelling. Red Productions is a very community-based company that enjoys meeting all types of creators, and dreamers throughout the great state of Texas and beyond. We are currently headquartered out of Fort Worth, Texas. We also have offices in Los Angeles and Austin. Onset my duty as a producer is to make sure that the clients, we are shooting for have the best experience possible. We aim to not only make an incredible final product but truly capture our clients’ visions for what story they’d like to tell. I ensure that all requirements are being met and that our production crews continue to be the best and friendliest to work with. In pre-production I assist with creative development, building estimates for clients, and working to make sure our clients are as excited as we are to jump into their new project.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?

In the same breath, if you are an aspiring writer, cinematographer, actor, etc… stop by our office or give me a call.
