Meet Shyanne Pruit of Optimal Force Fitness in Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shyanne Pruit.

Shyanne, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
When I graduated from Tarleton State University with my degree in Exercise & Sports Studies, I never thought I would end up running a business with my husband and mother-in-law. In fact, I spent seven years teaching Algebra, Elementary P.E., and Multimedia classes, along with coaching Soccer and Cheerleading. Then the next five years, I was primarily a stay-at-home mom of two girls with an Etsy shop and taught a few dance & tumbling classes.

My husband, Wacey, and mother-in-law, Sharon, actually started Optimal Force Fitness. Wacey has followed Dave Asprey for many years and was one of the early adopters of putting butter in his coffee. He heard about the ARX technology through the Bulletproof podcast and started noticing it pop-up more in the biohacking community. Sharon, who started running marathons in her 40’s, was becoming frustrated with the big box gym where she had been training. Wacey sent her a link about ARX, she got excited and asked, “where can I go to use it?” Soon they were discussing how they could bring it to Fort Worth. In the Fall of 2016, we took a family trip down to Austin and tested out the machines for ourselves. They quickly started laying the groundwork for Optimal Force Fitness. In the Summer of 2018, I started taking on more clients and responsibilities at Optimal Force as both my girls would be in school that Fall.

“It never gets easier you just get stronger” – is something I remind my clients and myself of frequently. Without writing too much more of a novel, I lost my dad when I was 22 to a heart attack (not his first) and my mother to breast cancer when I was 24. While it was a lot to endure in a short time, their health struggles went back a good ten years or more. My passion for health and wellness doesn’t just come from losing them though. My grandparents have set an excellent example of how a strong body and mind can save your life after surviving what most thought would be a fatal car accident.

So here I am now, studying for a Human Movement Specialist Certification, trying to decide what training data to use for research, and helping more people move better and age better (including myself). Also, I am on the lookout for more unique opportunities in the DFW area. This last year, thanks to a few clients I had the opportunity to teach my course “Movement is Medicine” for TCU Silver Frogs, and I got to be part of a show called “Most Expensivest – Hoedown” with 2 Chainz.

Has it been a smooth road?
Bringing a new concept; such as super slow strength training, to life is definitely a challenge because you have to (re)educate people! Our training style is not something you will find in a typical gym and is honestly hard for people to grasp until they personally try it.

Another challenge is that people like to keep us their little secret because they don’t want to tell their friends or competition why their golf game has improved!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Optimal Force Fitness story. Tell us more about the business.
Optimal Force Fitness opened in the Spring of 2017 in the West 7th District of Fort Worth offering clients, ages 14-80+, a unique, semi-private training environment without mirrors, crowds, or weights to drop.

We create body and time saving programs that accommodate changing levels of health and fitness, so clients can spend less time at the “gym” and more time enjoying life!

Optimal Force Fitness offers strength training using ARX (Adaptive Resistance eXercise) and AI-powered bike rides; along with recovery, balance, and stretching tools. Our advanced equipment provides optimal resistance that can’t be achieved with normal weights and stationary bikes. Software tracks each client’s workout in real-time providing motivation and quantifiable results. The ARX machines have the ability to allow our clients to perform isometric holds, eccentric only reps, concentric only reps, or combine them for an efficient full range rep optimizing time under load. We are all about the minimum effective dose and making sure you have adequate time to recover between sessions, so most clients come in just once or twice a week.

One of my favorite things about working here are our clients. Even on days when I work with over a dozen members, I leave energized and inspired. They get our motto “It never gets easier you just get stronger” comes to play on multiple levels, not just in the case of their workouts. While we are proud to be the first in Fort Worth to offer ARX, CAR.O.L, and Bulletproof technology, we are more excited to see our clients enjoying life more! Some of the people we work with have never lifted weights or done any type of resistance training before. They appreciate the 1-on-1 attention we provide and the accountability that comes from simply scheduling sessions ahead of time.

Just this Fall, we launched our first fundraising event called Ride For A Reason. For a minimum $5 donation, you could/can schedule a private bike ride, which are typically less than 10 minutes long. Each quarter, we plan to pick a local organization to benefit from the week-long event. Cancer Care Services was our first beneficiary. Our next Ride For A Reason will be in February 2020.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Technology is changing many industries, including fitness and health. The standards for “what is healthy” is shifting because we are becoming more self-aware. People, some would call them biohackers, are already starting to use personal biomarker data to discover how they can optimize their routines to increase productivity and improve their quality of life.
