Today we’d like to introduce you to Simone Tan and Ramsey Attia.
Simone and Ramsey, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Ramsey and I are actually both from New Jersey! We met here in Dallas. Ramsey has always been involved in the film. It’s actually funny since Ramsey loves to film horror shorts/movies, how did we get into weddings right? One of my co-workers was getting married and I mentioned to Ramsey how nice it would be to film her wedding as their wedding gift. I reached out to her and immediately she responded yes! She wasn’t budgeting for a videographer and she would be super happy.
As first time wedding shooters, we over planned and overpacked, but it went off without a hitch. As we were editing the video I fell in love with the process. Being able to replay all of those special moments that a girl and guy dream of ever since they were little is such a blessing. The businesswoman inside of me told Ramsey that this is what we have to do. I started to market a little and then people started knocking on our door. We grew from 2 weddings in 2016 to 13 in 2017 and now we have around 30+ for 2018 so far.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
So far it has been pretty smooth (knock on wood)! Since we have been in the wedding industry there are so many different vendors and personalities to work with. Ramsey and I are super adaptable and really are good at reading certain situations.
For brides, the day is already stressful enough and we do not like to add to it. As for our work, we are still honing our “style”. It’s been late nights of figuring out the best colors, what audio to use, edits, but it’s always a work in progress and we are always looking to expand our knowledge!
Please tell us about Reel Simple Studios.
Reel Simple Studios – hmmm. So I like to say what sets us apart is us. Ramsey is a perfectionist and truly loves to learn about new technology, new ways to edit, new gear, new music, etc. He is always adding new ways of editing into our film. I bet you haven’t seen a videographer use affect effects where the bride pulls in the groom into the frame!
I, on the other hand, bring the emotion, feelings, I catch the little things that really bring raw emotions into the film. There are so many times when Ramsey says he is done with an edit and I go over it and make the slightest changes that really make a big impact on “the story”. We work as a team. I believe that we specialize in cinematic wedding films that also has the emotional documentary style as well. We are a good mix between cinematic/documentary. We are known for our edits for sure.
The thing that people don’t know is that there are so many parts to editing; the audio, the coloring, the cuts, transitions, stabilization… I can keep going! We are both super proud of where we are right now with our company. We have amazing couples, we have worked with great vendors, we are traveling doing what we love. We also give it our all. When you see us at your wedding there isn’t a single moment where we are not filming.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Hmmm.. I just asked Ramsey and he said, he would have started earlier. I don’t really think I would have done anything differently. We truly have been blessed with how far we have come. I’m just excited to see where this leads us!
