Meet Amanda Page and Haylee Ryan from Sister the Band in Oak Cliff

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Page and Haylee Ryan.

Amanda and Haylee, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
We are two best friends. We have been best friends for over 15 years and started playing music together around the time we met. We played as an acoustic duo for over ten years, perfecting our harmonies and exploring music together. About four years ago, we decided we wanted to form a blues rock band and our band organically and spontaneously came together. Chadwick Murray was the first to join and has been with us since the beginning, writing music over late-night dinners and raising our first pup, Sister, who also shares the name of our band. Aaron Stanfield and Ian Ferguson came to us a little later through surprising avenues, but perfectly complete our five-piece group and we can’t imagine how we ever wrote music without them.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Ya know, sometimes when you want to pursue your dreams, you just have to put it out there in the universe. And that’s what we did. We started telling people that we were forming a band named Sister and that we were looking for members, and sure enough, the perfect people came to us. We have learned that you have to actively move in the direction that you want to go even when you don’t have the means yet. Sometimes, and usually in our experiences, the means come, and usually in a better way than you could’ve planned.

Please tell us about Sister the Band.
We are SISTER, a female duo turned full band. Sister is a project based around a love for lyrics, melody, tight harmonies, and music that can make you want to dance or remind you of a memory you can relate to. We released our debut album, “Spiraling Minds,” last year with a full band backing us and collaborating to push our lyrics and melodies to a more true place of blues and rock, while still highlighting our unique vocal blend.

We would say that what sets us apart is our female harmony and our diverse cross-genre sound. We pride ourselves on sounding like “one voice,” and it shows our connection and the time we have spent together. We also have a hard time identifying our music with one genre as we have songs that feel bluesy, others more rock, some with a country twang. Other people may say that it is a unique live experience to see us perform, as we have unstoppable banter. We don’t just play through the songs, we’ve got some stuff to say, and it’s mostly heckling the crowd.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
When we were becoming best friends together, finding the mutual passion for music, and bolding trying our hand at songwriting with a confidence that we laugh at now.
