Today we’d like to introduce you to Sovmya George.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was born and raised in a quiet suburb in Illinois. I grew to be a people person who loves to observe, listen, and empathize with others. I set out to be the first attorney in my family. Ever since I was a child, I knew I wanted to be a lawyer. I think my interest was a combination of watching dramatic court scenes in movies and also a calling in life. When it came time to attend college, the summer before, I did a deep dive into the legal profession. I researched the job market and unfortunately found that it was a tough time for law school graduates. They simply were not finding jobs. This scared me because I didn’t want to risk not being able to find a job post graduation. I then made the decision to change my course of study to another profession. I chose dentistry! In college, I joined dental club, I got a job as a dental assistant, was a biology major, and did all things dental related. When it was my junior year of college, I applied to dental schools and I received an interview invite to a dental school in Arizona. I attended and the dean at the school introduced himself as having his dental license and also his law license. I was amazed, more so that he was a lawyer than a dentist. The rest of the interview day I was not focused. I kept think about my career choice and if I am making the wrong decision. After I got home from Arizona, I had an honest conversation with my mom where I told her I don’t think dentistry is for me and how I don’t want to regret my decision. I told her I want to go to law school and how I found a school in Boston that doesn’t require the LSAT so I wouldn’t lose a year, I didn’t want to take a break in my education. I told her if I got in, I am going. Thankfully, my mom listened and fully supported my decision. Next thing I know, I moved to Boston! I attended law school (3 years) as a full time student while also working in varying law firms as a paralegal or intern. This real world experience helped me grow immensely. I graduated in June of 2021, took the Massachusetts bar in July of 2021 and found out I passed in November of 2021. I got my first job as a licensed attorney in a mid-size law firm in the heart of Boston where I grew my skills as a personal injury attorney and gained experience handling immigration cases. I was in charge of about 60-70 cases and was the lead attorney of the workers compensation department. I enjoyed my work and my wonderful work family. At that time, I was engaged to my now husband who happens to be a dentist (full circle moment haha!). We got married in the summer of 2022 and made the decision to move to Texas. Once we moved to Texas, I worked purely in an immigration law firm and then in the spring of 2023, I opened up my own law firm. It was just me in my business and still is. I enjoy speaking to people across the nation and getting to help them. I truly enjoy what I get to do. Then I had my first baby in the summer of 2025. I had to learn trying to balance motherhood, business ownership, being an attorney, amongst all other roles and responsibilities. I knew I wanted to continue working and grow my business so I did not stop. Then, in the winter of 2025, I obtained my Texas license and started handling personal injury cases alongside immigration in my law firm. I am extremely grateful to God for the opportunity to serve the community as an attorney. I continue to attend conferences and events to sharpen my skills, I ensure to make time for my family and friends, and to grow in my faith as a Christian. It hasn’t been an easy journey, but it’s been a blessed one, and continues to be!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Looking back, it seemed like a smooth road but going through it, it was filled with a lot of fear, the unknown, and just a lot happening. I do not come from a family of attorneys. I think that fact itself made me have anxious thoughts for the future. I knew I had to put myself out there and make connections, learn the ropes, and build the career I want. Thankfully, I met wonderful people along the way, and still do, who have been and continue to be a mentor, a guide, a big blessing in my life. Makes me feel like I am not alone in this and I hope to be that for others as well.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I think risk-taking is needed for growth. I myself am not a free risk-taker. I definitely am guilty of thinking things through and from all angles before I make a decision. At the same time, I do put myself out there and do things I want to do, like starting a business. I think that has to be the biggest risk I took. Looking back, I am glad I made the decision. I didn’t just do it myself though, I have God, my husband, my family and loved ones to support me. I think risk taking is healthy and should be something people do to rise to the next level. Otherwise you get too comfortable where you are and yes, that is easy, but it’s no fun, nor exciting.
Pricing:
- Immigration case fees vary depending on the case
- Personal injury case fees are on a contingency fee basis meaning I only get paid if my client gets paid, otherwise no out of pocket costs for my clients.
