Today we’d like to introduce you to Kameron Westcott.
Kameron, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am the creator and founder of SparkleDog premium dog food and also star on Bravo’s hit show, Real Housewives of Dallas. I have always been a dog lover and started SparkleDog food to combine my love for canines and my passion for pink by creating a product with bold packaging and pink, heart-shaped kibble. Sadly, I lost my Yorkie, Louis last year, so I had to take a step back and think about rebranding. For now, we are just selling the dog shampoo and multivitamins. Both are available on Amazon.
As for being getting cast on Real Housewives of Dallas (RHOD) – I was the biggest fan of the franchise ever. I was a new mom at the time and was literally breastfeeding and watching Real Housewives to keep me busy. When the show came to Dallas for a second season, Cary Deuber was actually a close friend of mine and she threw my name into the pile to do interviews. Never did I ever imagine I would end up on the show, especially because my family did not approve. After a lot of convincing to my family, shockingly I got on the show somehow. I can’t believe it has been three full seasons now!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The pet industry has been a huge challenge. With our original concept of having pink kibble, there were so many challenges. But we learned so much along the way. Being on the housewives has been a blessing but it’s also challenging in its own way. We deal with so many different personalities and there really is so much drama on and off the show… even when the cameras aren’t rolling.
Please tell us about SparkleDog and Bravo’s Real Housewives.
What had set us apart was adding pink into the dog kibble. But as mentioned, we plan to just focus on the vitamins and shampoo. Believe it or not but being on a reality show is a business in itself. I don’t even know how anyone doing the show has time for anything else!
Fans of the show know that I love the color pink, so I guess I am known for pink – for both – SparkleDog and RHOD.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I wouldn’t do anything differently. I believe that everything happens for a reason and failures and successes are all part of the journey.
