Today we’d like to introduce you to Stacie Mullins.
Stacie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I love to craft and get crafty with my resources. I’ve run at Etsy shop for years doing a lot of cheer items and decided to branch out into the woodwork world with my dad.
About a year ago, I contacted the founder and owner of Hammer and Stain DIY Workshop located in Gainesville, Florida. From there I knew this was my next step, my dream. I flew to Florida and hit the ground running upon my arrival to the terminal at DFW. I found a perfect venue to host classes and took it over as my permanent shop. The rest is kind of a whirlwind, it was a small group of assistants that helped me run the shop along with my supportive family to keep that caffeine going.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I learned a whole lot of small business bumps and bruises and super fortunate for the tremendous growth of business in such a small amount of time. I love interacting with people and learning about their stories. Beginning this adventure in my community and providing a fun experience for people to interact with one another is the definition of success for me. This is definitely a homegrown business that I am super proud to take off and the business of the year to come.
Hammer and Stain DIY Workshop-DFW, LLC – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Hammer and Stain DIY Workshop is a Do It Yourself workshop that specializes in preparing unfinished wood projects and a customized stencil that guests book online ahead of time. Upon entering the workshop, it is aprons on, glove up and get that stain going. Guests enjoy a night of doing a project as an individual or couples night while enjoying a BYOW atmosphere.
The workshops are self-paced rather than formal so that no one feels rushed through their projects. At the end of the night, they have transformed that unfinished piece into a fine work of decor they can proudly display in their home or as a beautiful gift that they put a whole lot of love into. What sets us apart? Being a wood workshop, our motto is “perfectly imperfect” because after all, wood has a personality of its own with knots and the grain and it is a beautiful thing to bring it to life.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment in my career is surviving opening a small local business in the fourth quarter and surviving. I was in no way prepared for the amazing support and growth of my little business that really felt like it exploded overnight. I had a few technical issues and learning curves that I didn’t have time to go through but we overcame it all. I have an amazing staff that rallied behind me and I really feel that made a huge impact and had a fabulous holiday season.
