Today we’d like to introduce you to Stan Penn.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Stan. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Spent more than 25 years in the corporate world as a banker. My career took me all over the United States. At 35 I made the decision to retire at 50 come back to Texas and open an Irish pub. I accomplished this goal in 2014 when I purchased what is now The Celt Irish Pub. There have been absolutely no regrets.
Has it been a smooth road?
Actually, my career in banking prepared me well for owning and operating a small business. In a sense, we are all retailers trying to offer the best possible products and services while always watching cash flow and the bottom-line. There have been many successes. Watching the pub double in sales during the first three years, adding live music 8 times a week and winning a number of awards have been a few of the highlights. Challenges include dealing with the all the risk associated with owning a small business – regulations, taxes, suppliers, weather.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Celt Irish Pub – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are an authentic Irish pub offering a full bar and dining menu. We specialize in providing a real Irish experience from the decor, atmosphere, food, drink and music. Most of the items in The Celt came straight from pubs in Ireland. Our dining menu has all the Irish classics you would expect to find here, our bar has more than 100 different whiskies on hand including more than 60 different Irish whiskies. Our biggest sellers are Guinness and Fish and Chips accounting for 17% of total sales. We offer music up 8-9 times each week with approximately two-thirds being Irish music – from traditional, to children’s bands to rock. Most of the other bands are classic rock in nature. Most or our management team has been to Ireland recently. The owner travels to Ireland at least twice a year to keep abreast of what’s going on over there. We are always adding new drink and food items to the menu, adding new bands to the music schedule and always bringing something back from Ireland to add to the pub’s decor.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Honestly, I love everything about the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex and wouldn’t want to be anywhere else than McKinney. It’s an amazing place full of wonderful people.
