Today we’d like to introduce you to Stefanie Long.
Hi Stefanie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I became passionate about women’s health therapy in 2011 after being treated as a patient following the birth of my first child. I struggled with incontinence and pelvic pain and, after just a few visits, my symptoms began to lessen. This led me to pursue certification in this area and go on to help women with similar concerns! I’ve seen hundreds of clients through the same processes!
I have been a practicing physical therapist for over 14 years. I have treated patients in pelvic health, general orthopedic, post-operative conditions, sports injury rehab, and also pediatric patients with both neurological or orthopedic conditions and incontinence/bed-wetting issues.
I opened Concept Pelvic Health in January of 2021 after realizing that the hospital system wasn’t a good fit for pelvic health rehabilitation. I hoped for a clinic that saw only pelvic health patients, where patients could come, feeling comfortable and heard, and weren’t shoved into the back room of a physical therapy clinic. The dream became a reality as we began to grow and patients realized how quickly things began to improve. In June of 2022, we expanded to a 4-treatment room clinic with 3 physical therapists, all dedicated to pelvic health. Now we are able to help more patients realize a life unhindered, where they no longer live life revolving around a bathroom or concerned about pain.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Growth is never without its discomfort or fear. Stepping out on your own and not having the security of a stable paycheck is always scary, but my husband and I have grown through the process and he is my biggest cheerleader.
I think what has made it work is the knowledge that what we are doing matters to a lot of women. I don’t think people really realize how important your bowel, bladder, or sexual health is. It affects so much of your life that when you realize what life can be like on the other side, you have to take care of these issues.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Concept Pelvic Health specializes in treating women and pediatric/adolescent pelvic health. This includes (but isn’t limited to!) pelvic pain, pain during intercourse, incontinence, urinary or fecal frequency/hesitancy, common issues associated with pregnancy, diastasis recti, orthopedic conditions that occur in the postpartum period, low back or hip pain, and many additional problems women may endure in their lifetime. Pediatric/Adolescent pelvic health helps our younger population who are struggling with bowel/bladder issues, constipation, bedwetting, delayed potty training, back or pelvic pain, and issues with menstrual cycles (including constipation or pain associated with cycles).
We focus solely on these issues and consider ourselves experts in any of these situations (and probably some that are not listed). All treatment sessions are 1-on-1 and 60 minutes in length. You get our full undivided attention during that time. Because of this, we typically see really good progress within 3-5 visits! It doesn’t take long for us to know that we’re on the right track and that you’re starting to meet your goals.
The reason women trust us is that every single one of us (including front desk staff!) come from a place of understanding. In one way or another, we have dealt with these issues and have gone through the therapy. You can trust that we know the path and can guide you to better health.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
