Meet Stephanie Magilow of Jammit Jam

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Magilow.

Hi Stephanie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Jammit Jam was started in 2014. A friend taught me how to make jam and my original idea was just to earn a little extra holiday money… I originally had no intention of it being any bigger than a local farmers market booth, every now and then. Within the first season, we were selling more than we could produce ourselves and we had gourmet grocery stores asking us to sell to them. We have had some ups and downs over the last 8 years, but have found our groove and are now in over 200 stores nationwide, and still growing.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The first 3 years were meteoric. We grew so fast, but did not have the knowledge to grow with Distribution. Years 4 & 5 had many setbacks and we learned lessons the hard way. We have found that our product really belongs in specialty grocers and gift shops. We can’t really compete with Bon Maman and Smuckers in big grocery chains, but we don’t want to either. Our jams & jellies, caramel sauces and bread mixes are all produced small batch, hand stirred and hand produced, just like you would make with your Grandma. We don’t want to be mass-machine-produced. We have found our niche and are content right where we are.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Jammit Jam?
We specialize in jams, dessert sauces and bread mixes for people that love gourmet food, choose healthy & clean-label products, and enjoy entertaining with their friends. Our jams have recipe & pairing ideas on the back of every label, and we encourage our customers to use them beyond just their breakfast toast… delicious glazed on grilled meat or added to cheese boards or used as dessert sauces. We also love to create gifts for clients and friends and are able to ship them nationwide. We love to share our products for holiday client gifting. And our award-winning jams are low sugar and whole fruit, so they are the perfect indulgence for a healthy diet.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
Once a month we would pile into my parents’ car (6 of us), and drive 5 hours to my Grandmother’s house in the Panhandle of Texas. My parents were very healthy eaters and we rarely had candy or sugary cereals in our home, but my Grandmother’s house was like Candy land…she would remember what each of us liked and would have our favorite cereals, cookies & candy galore waiting for us when we arrived.. And we would always bake together. Our visits with her were always very joyful.
