Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Seay.
Stephanie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I launched The Seayside in August of 2018, but this journey actually began almost a decade ago in New York. While living in the city, I had two blogs – one focused on my take on what was happening in fashion and in the city at the time – the other was devoted to my love of Broadway. Once we moved and started a family, I decided to take a blogging break and focus on this exciting new chapter. Over the past few years, I kept getting encouraged to start blogging again, but I wanted to make sure I found my true voice and what I really wanted to focus on so that I could ensure I brought something new and different to the table. It was important for me to find my own voice and something that separated me from others – what I could do to make The Seayside truly one of a kind. I felt that combining my previous career in fashion, a love for our city’s philanthropy and art scene, and the fact that my husband and I travel to so many off the beaten path places, I could offer a unique voice to share with others.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Once I made the decision to rebrand and relaunch I made sure that I surrounded myself with an amazing support team. There is so much that goes on behind the scenes, but I have found that, if you work with great people, who share a vision and are willing to put in the time and effort, that is half the battle. My amazing support system has helped me build The Seayside from the ground up and has helped to make my journey a lot easier than it would have been otherwise. I think that part of growing and finding success is about knowing what you know, what you don’t know, and when to enlist the experts to help you learn. My advice to any young women starting their journey is to really define what they are striving towards…what’s the ultimate goal and why? Once that has been solidified…go for it!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about The Seayside – what should we know?
I think that my combination of glam, real life, and focus on philanthropy really sets me apart from other bloggers. I think that the world of social media is amazing because there really is room for everyone, however, finding your voice is a hugely important part of the process. I heard someone say that you shouldn’t put something out there unless you are doing something better or different than what is already out there. I really think that my unique style of fashion – thanks to my work with Carlos Alonso-Parada – and my focus on philanthropy really sets me apart. I love fashion, but I also love trying to make a true impact in this world, whether that’s through events or fundraising.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
When we embrace our ability to be strong, empathetic, and forward-thinking women, we really become the stronger sex. While there are definitely challenges, I think that right now is the time for all of the women out there to just go for it! The world is definitely becoming more female-focused and it feels great to be a part of that momentum.
