Today we’d like to introduce you to Steve Coker.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My story starts as a kid when my Father owned his Cleaners in Houston and I would spend Saturday afternoons there with my Dad. As a teenager, I worked in the Texas Hill Country at Neals Lodges as the Horse Wrangler who would take the vacationers on trail rides up into the hills. Once I finished school I had the calling to serve my country so I joined the Navy and spent the next 20 years serving as an aircraft mechanic on many types of aircraft. I spent a lot of time away from my family being deployed around the world mostly working on the flight deck of aircraft carriers in extremely hazardous working conditions. From my high school days, I had also competed as a Bull Rider in rodeo’s and this continued into my Navy days.
While in the Navy when we had the time we would compete in local rodeo’s as well as several times in Yuma, Arizona in the Military Finals Rodeo. After I retired from the Navy I followed in my Father’s footsteps and was employed at a Dry Cleaners. Over the last 20 years I have worked in the Dry Cleaning business and I am now a General Manager. I started in the 1960’s helping my Dad at his cleaners. Then I traveled the world and ended right where I started back at the Cleaners.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My struggles were when I was in the Navy and being deployed a lot. It was very difficult on my family life.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Dry Clean Super Center – what should we know?
I am the GM of a Dry Cleaning Plant which has been in the Keller, Texas area since 2005. I do more than most GM’s due to my mechanical ability. I do a lot of maintenance myself which saves the Owner a large amount of cost from paying maintenance people. I am most proud of our great customers and their loyalty to our Cleaners but I am also proud of our great employees who provide the absolute best customer service. Our quality and customer service set us apart from all the other Dry Cleaners.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Being a people person. I believe you need a good personality in order to grow relationships and succeed in business or life. Of course, you need more than that but it all starts with a good personality. But without my beautiful supportive Wife I would not have the success I have today.
