Meet Steve Harris

Today we’d like to introduce you to Steve Harris.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have always been someone who likes to create experiences for people behind the scenes. In middle school, I would throw teen partys at venues in my hometown Chattanooga, TN. This passion for events followed me of course through high school, college with my fraternity Kappa Alpha Psi, and in ATL. I had been living in Dallas for about 2 years (2019) when I decided to start back throwing events. My original plan when I came to Dallas was to focus on my career at AT&T and travel as much as possible! Then I got involved with our young black professionals group at our company and behold… I started assisting with our monthly happy hour. I started finding venues and helping set up food/beverage deals to really connect not just AT&T but young professionals all throughout Dallas. Organically it grew into a monthly happy hour involving young black professionals from a variety of different companies in metro Dallas. This also meant that when anyone would have friends/family in town or wanted to get out, they would ask me for the Dallas go-to spots! I would send them to a couple of my favorites but I quickly realized there wasn’t a brunch/day party that I liked. So, I did what I do best, connected with the venues whom I thought could bring my idea to life. I wanted an R&B brunch that was all-you-can-eat style, of course with mimosas! That easily transitions from R&B to day party-patio vibes. I started the event in December of 2020 at Blue Mesa Grill in Addison and after a year there, we are now at Ten01 Bistro in uptown Dallas. My partners Influencers Marketing Group and One of One have been instrumental in growing the event into what it is today…. “The Best Saturday Brunch/Day party in Dallas!!!”

I also collab with other promoters and vibe curators throughout Dallas on different pop-up events: PSWRD, SNKRS BALL, etc.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Throwing events as a promoter is never a smooth road. There are a lot of things behind the scenes that most participants are not aware of which is a good thing. When dealing with owners/managers, they have expectations that must be met for the event., whether it is a bar minimum or marketing of their venue. Then customers/participants have expectations for their experience which differs from person to person. All of which I am accustomed to and enjoy curating events that exceed both the venues and participants expectations!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Lead College Recruiting Manager at AT&T. I have built of brand of recruiting diverse talent into both the technical development and business sales space. I recruit at universities in Texas, California, Florida, and Ohio. I am most proud of not only exceeding recruiting expectations but creating a diverse pipeline of talent. I continually work to be a resource to candidates in regards to professional development, even if they don’t choose AT&T as a career.

What matters most to you?
Professional Development is huge to me! Growing up, I didn’t have any young black leaders guiding me through corporate America. I want to be a guide and resource to as many people as possible.
