Today we’d like to introduce you to Steve John.
Steve, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I own Smart Creative Solutions, a marketing agency known for helping businesses reach their maximum potential through creative marketing & advertising.
Like many first-generation South Asian Americans, my parents put a strong emphasis on education. Throughout my high school years, I caught the attention of Princeton University & even got admitted to the highly coveted Pre-Pharmacy Hybrid Program at Texas Tech. While attending Tech for Pre-Pharmacy, I couldn’t shake my passion for design & web development. I knew that I wasn’t built for a typical 9-5 job and I was already working with many non-profit organizations in marketing & advertising and my parents recognized my desire to help others and encouraged me to pursue my passion.
I then transferred to The University of Texas in Arlington and graduated in Graphic Design with a minor in communication all while helping numerous businesses/organizations around the nation with marketing.
It’s crazy to think that I have over 15 years experience in helping taking organizations/businesses to the next level but my passion has never died down, in fact it has only grown stronger!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
If I told you that it’s been a smooth road, I would be lying to you. I’ve always helped other organizations and companies as a side hustle but only about a year and half ago did I go “all in” by walking away from a salary job and completely started focusing on my company.
When I made the decision to focus everything I had to my marketing agency (while having a newborn on the way), it completely scared me but God showed me that He was in control by quickly bringing business that kept me busy and taken care of!

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I would find myself getting excited to get new CDs not only to listen to the music but to study and drool over the artwork as I flipped through the cover jacket. I also was noticing when brands would change up either their font or logo, I mean what elementary kid does that?!
My parents always allowed me to express my creativity whether that was through art, playing instruments, or singing. I’m very grateful that I had parents that didn’t limit my artistic expressions but would encourage me to get better at developing my skills.
