Meet Steve Scott of Scott’s Police K9 in Flower Mound

Today we’d like to introduce you to Steve Scott.

Steve, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My love for working Dogs began during my time in the US Army, while I was stationed in Italy. I met some military dog handlers that introduced me to some Germans and I began attending their training. Shortly after, I purchased a German shepherd puppy and started learning as much as possible, and I was hooked. After multiple combat tours and my eventual medical discharge from the Army, I became a police officer with a goal of being a K9 officer. I completed all the training and quickly became a police K9 handler. I attended any seminar or training I could and very quickly distinguished myself (and my dog) as the best team in my department. We were often called out by other agencies, both state and federal. I became my K9 Unit head trainer and one thing I always noticed was a lack of quality police dogs. The dogs that I encountered during my time as a police K9 unit head were lacking drive and ability. I quickly decided that with my contacts and my expertise, I could import a better dog at a better price. I purchased 2 dogs from Europe from close contacts, trained the dogs and ultimately sold the dogs to police departments. The agencies that purchased them were overly happy with the quality and training of the dogs. Word began to spread that I had a better quality dog at a better price. While being a full time police officer, I would fly to Europe and purchase Dogs to sell to departments and other trainers as well. The business grew very fast and we were awarded a contract to supply the US Government with trained bomb detection dogs. After fulfilling the government contract, we started gaining national and international recognition for our dogs and training. Fast forward to the present, we have now sold over 4,000 police and personal protection dogs to state and federal agencies, and numerous homeowners, and have become one of the most sought after police and protection dog providers in the world.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
As with any new business, when starting we had our fair share of heartaches. We always stood by the motto of “Only sell what you would to work with as a police k9 or protecting your home.” Fourteen years later, our dedication to provider world-class protection dogs has truly paid off.

What were you like growing up?
I have always had a passion to protect others. That is what led me to a career in the Army and the police, and now, a career training elite protection dogs for police agencies and families.
