Meet Steven Terrell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Steven Terrell.

So, before we jump into specific questions about what you do, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I recently decided to retire from the NFL this past year after six years. I played for the Jaguars, Texans, Seahawks, Chiefs, and Titans. I was undrafted and bounced around the NFL but I was proud of my career and the grind and focus it took to last that long as an undrafted free agent coming out of college. I overcame a bunch of struggles from being released over 10 times to not getting my contract renewed. Like many retired athletes the hardest question is always what’s next. I wanted to get into a field where I could use all the connections I’ve made over the years and a field that rewards you for hard work. Real estate seemed like a perfect match. My team lead Matt Brown had been recruiting me to get into real estate and join his team whenever I retire for a couple of years. I finally decided to take the classes one offseason and shortly after I finished, I made the decision to move on from football and I joined the Dynamic Estate Team. The reason I chose the Dynamic Estate Team through Coldwell Banker Apex was because of Matt Brown my team lead. I’ve known him since 10th grade and we played football together in high school. I wanted someone who had made the transition from football to real estate to mentor me and he was the perfect person. We are part of the top 1% in DFW, a top 100 team in Texas, and have been a top 10 team company-wide for the past three years.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There isn’t a lot of smoothness in real estate. When I first started, it was something that I had never been accustomed too. The great thing about my situation was that I had a team to lean on and a great teacher/mentor. In real estate when you first get started you kind of get thrown to the wolves but my situation was different. I’ve learned to manage my time well and with each client comes more struggles and obstacles to learn from. The thing I love most about real estate is every day is a new challenge and every customer is different and has different needs. We wear a lot of different hats as a realtor and I take pride in being able to guide my clients through such an emotional decision. Building up clients is always the biggest struggle for a realtor because there are so many out there. The competitive side of me sees this as an opportunity to stand out and compete to earn clients’ business.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am part of a real estate team called the Dynamic Estate Team. We are a team under the brokerage Coldwell Banker Apex, Realtors. We specialize in buying, selling, investing, and leasing residential properties. We are known for our old school work ethic and new school technology. Customer service and work ethic gets lost in the real estate industry. We pride ourselves on being available and going that extra mile for each client. I’m am most proud of our team for consistency and production over the years. We are part of the Top 1% in DFW and are a top 100 real estate team in Texas.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over I would have just started earlier. I kept waiting for what I thought would be the right timing and I should have just started when I had the initial idea. Mistakes are going to be made in any field and I think they are necessary to learn from.
