Today we’d like to introduce you to Carina Mavula.
My love for fashion started at a young age. I kept up with all the trends, what was hot/what was not, etc. Growing up with low self-esteem and, constantly feeling rejected grew my desire for attention. Especially the attention of men! I figured since men didn’t notice me because of my nice smile and beautiful personality, I had to find another way to fit in, feel accepted and, noticed. During this time I was about 12 years old and, over 230 pounds. I exposed my chest, backside and, more. I gained the attention of men but, still cried myself to sleep. As time went on I exposed more while my love for fashion grew, low self-esteem grew and, I became okay with how men treated me.
As time went on I continued to gain weight but my love for fashion/personal style never stopped me from looking good! I kept my nails done, hair done and, a new outfit in my closet. I wanted women to know what style has no size and, being a fashionista is something ANYONE can be!
With the love of fashion & wanting to be the example grew the love of shopping but, shopping gets expensive. My freshman year of college a coworker of my mine shared her love for Goodwill and, I was mind blown. I took a trip there and, I honestly haven’t stopped since! I later on learned that were other thrift stores with amazing pieces and, even better prices. I took $100 to a store called Thrift Giant one day and, left the store with over 20 pieces of clothing! I thought to myself, “THIS IS THE BEST THING SINCE SLICED BREAD! I NEED TO TELL THE WORLD ABOUT THIS”! I gained the courage to go live on Instagram that same day and, share my experience, what I bought and, how much everything cost! My followers couldn’t believe it and, kept asking for more Thrift Hauls. The more I went shopping the more people wanted to know what bought and, how I planned to create Styled For Christ appropriate outfits. There was who was watching one of my Thrift Hauls reached out to me stating that she needed a makeover but, did not have the time to go shopping. She stated that she loved my style and, wanted to pay me to do some personal shopping at the thrift store for her. I was mind blown! Not only was this an opportunity for me to help someone gain their confidence back, I could teach her how to be Styled For Christ with every piece I purchased for her.
One client led to another and before I knew it, the phone calls for personal shopping didn’t stop! My only requirement was that everything I purchased had to be modest and Styled For Christ appropriate!
