Meet Sungwoo Chun of ADPOP Design

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sungwoo Chun.

Sungwoo, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am the Chief Executive Officer of ADPOP Design.

I grew up in DaeGu, South Korea, where I studied and applied design and various other work ethics and experiences. My wife, Jenny Chun, and I decided to move to the United States for better opportunities and a brighter future. As first-generation Korean American, I faced various challenges and had to learn to adjust to new surroundings lifestyle. Even though there are language and cultural barriers, my goal to pursue a career in the design field motivated me to successfully run a remarkable firm such as ADPOP.

I bring nearly 15 years of graphic design and printing experiences, along with background in leadership, to ADPOP Design. Prior to joining the company with Jenny, the founder of ADPOP Design, I was the executive creative director at NewsKorea, the most popular Korean-American newspaper company in the DFW area.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Struggles are unavoidable when people come together and work as a team. Conflicts can be caused by contrasting opinions and personalities, or uneven communications. Out of these challenges, I believe the latter struggle is the hardest and requires the most effort from all members of the team. In order to overcome these conflicts, Jenny and I introduced a four-step job process which will successfully get the work done. The work process flow starts with Contact, which initiates project development, and moves onto Design to generate the appropriate layout and composition. After design comes Production to execute all deliverables, and lastly, closing completes the process with successful business transaction. Every step is essential in developing successful designs.
