Today we’d like to introduce you to Sunny Nadolsky.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Sunny. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I bumped into our healthcare’s problem with opaque large price variance among providers about 3 years ago when I had to find the right imaging center to perform an MRI for my shoulder pain due to my $2000-deductible plan. At the time, I was leading a digital technology team working on an online platform where customers can easily search, find, compare price and ratings of local service providers, and then book and pay for the chosen providers.
The problem in healthcare was obviously a much bigger and more important problem to me and my team, as I do not believe venerable patients should be taken advantage of by profit-driven entities, and our healthcare’s hidden prices, opaque qualities, and often times large price variances among providers in the same neighborhood are serious problems for us all. There appeared no good solution for the problem, and after some thorough research, I came to see the strong market demand for a good solution.
So I started building MediBookr with a team whose expertise are in digital health, mobile technology, data analytics, and employee healthcare benefits in the Spring of 2015.
I and my family put about $250k into the initial development, and then angel investors invested $500k in MediBookr. We were admitted by Health Wildcatters in the Fall of 2016. We also won the Business Competition sponsored by Southwest Airlines and the Addison Tree House in September 2016. We were awarded by Premierinc. as one of 16 healthcare innovators in 2017. We were also a finalist in Healthcare Excellence by the D CEO Magazine in 2017.
We launched in the end of 2016 with Medical Imaging, and then expanded to physicians, labs, surgery in 2017, and built our mobile App, and are currently serving employers and their employees in DFW.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The toughest challenge is to calibrate how much to build given our limited resources as a young startup, where juggle with limited resources among the needs of the Team and cost of vendors, tempting the market demand, and to make the angel investors see what we believe we can build is part of the startup life.
MediBookr – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m the founder and CEO of MediBookr, which is a digital health company that helps employers and employees reduce healthcare cost through our digital and mobile platform powered by transparency and data-analytics.
MediBookr lists providers’ transparent price (insurance estimates, bundled rates, cash rates), ratings, and location for employees to easily “search, find, compare, and booking” with the best value (low cost and good quality providers) in a few quick clicks.
MediBookr is known for bringing digital and mobile technology to healthcare choices by introducing transparency to providers’ price and ratings. We are proud of our solution for its neutrality that is back by solid data. Our platform (both web and mobile App) lists providers from insurance networks and providers who offer cash rates.
To enhance user experience and reduce cost, we also employ and leverage artificial intelligence and machine learning technology in our services and products. Most of our competitors only list providers from insurance networks, and their services are more manual.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define my personal success as having “put my talents and energy into building a valuable solution to make a valuable contribution to our society, our community, and my family, and as having actualized my best potential as a “moral, trustworthy, reliable, conscientious, kind, responsible, respected, independent, diligent, and accomplished member within our society, community, and within my family”, and be a good role model to those around me, my Team, employees, apprentices, etc…
Pricing:
- MediBookr is free to individual users (employees) and charges employers a nominal fee ($1-$4)/PEPM for its turnkey solution that helps both employees and employers save money on healthcare shopping.
