Meet Susan Demus of QueenBee’d Designs in Southern Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Susan Demus.

Susan, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Crafting and creativity have been an undercover passion of mine for some time now. Several years ago, I started off doing silk flower arrangements, and Christmas tree design. This led me to what I am doing now. I started my bracelet beading business based on a simple request from my grandson to have a bracelet. I was looking for a bracelet for my brother’s birthday and he wanted one as well. I had beading supplies that I had yet to use and just needed to start doing it. So, I made my grandson his first bracelet, and from there QueenBee’D Designs was created.

About six months ago, I got serious about my craft and business after meeting with a friend Percy Bryant, Owner of AMP Marketing, Percy designed my logo and; his gentle nudge prompted me to protect my brand and consider future endeavors. Being an entrepreneur is such a blessing. It has allowed me the ability to feel and have a sense of accomplishment. However, between family life, work-life, and so much more. Finding a niche that fits into my very busy life has probably been the hardest obstacle.

As QueenBee’D Designs continues to grow and create innovative pieces, I will continue to mindfully hold on to the beauty of my roots. My focus is to be trusted by my clients, producing only quality work that they will enjoy wearing. I take great pride in everything I do, from the very start of production; to the moment it leaves my hands and goes onto my clients’ wrist. Every piece embodies the love and care I place into my handmade work. My craft allows me to create amazing products that you will wear with pride and amazement, there’s truly a unique story behind each handcrafted piece. I feel completely blessed to be able to bring creative inspiration to others. My hope is that my wrist art will one day spread and worn by many.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I wouldn’t say that the road has been totally smooth. Anyone going into this type of business needs to know that if you’re serious about your craft, it’s going to take finances to make your vision come to fruition. You must be willing to put in the time and money, learn your industry, establish your client base and how you plan to reach them. I’m taking classes and learning new trades and techniques in the industry so that I can grow my business. I’m in this for the long haul, and there are great things coming in 2020 for QueenBee’D Designs.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
QueenBee’D Designs specializes in beaded charm bracelets. Every bracelet that I make is created with some type of Gemstone or Precious Stone such as Jade, Jasper, and Amethyst stones. It is not my policy to create multiples of the same bracelets, and I also do not recreate designer inspired bracelets (such as LV, Chanel, etc.) Quality is my priority. My brand is known for the inspirational charms with scripture or uplifting sayings. I am a firm believer in covering yourself in positive affirmations. I am extremely proud that my customers feel that what is created for them, is inspired by them for them. The feedback from my customers has been great and it is pushing me to design my own personal brand of charms. I consider each woman or man when producing my bracelets. I listen to what they like, note their style and I take that information to create a piece just for them. I don’t want my clients to feel like anyone can wear their personal bracelets. What I create for them, only they can wear.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment is being able to take a simple request and turn into something Amazing. I’ll always credit my grandson Trenton Jones with helping me get started.
