Meet Susana Gibb of Gibb Insurance Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Susana Gibb.

Hi Susana, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started with a very (not) lucrative Theater Degree. My dad had an insurance agency in Tyler. After college, I worked in restaurants while auditioning and trying to secure gigs. He told me there was a desk for me in Tyler if I wanted a job. I did NOT want to go back to Tyler. I began working remotely for him, selling insurance and appearing in commercials and films. I’ve appeared in over 250 commercials and films since. One day, I woke up and realized that I had been selling insurance for almost 20 years and almost quit. How many people do you know who have had the same job for 20 years? Ultimately, I realized how much I loved working with my clients and developing a lifelong relationship. What a gift to be involved with people that long. I doubled down and decided to grow the agency. I bought my book of business from my dad and grew from 1 to 5 in the first year. I’m an old baby in this business. I have 27 years of experience and only 4 as a business owner. It’s a whole new challenge running the agency and managing a team. We’ve won awards from D Magazine and Dallas Morning news for 2 years in a row, which has been thrilling for us.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When I bought the agency, we put in new technology, new processes, a new accounting system, and hired new people. Processes take time and experimentation to really get right. Not everyone is cut out to be in sales, either, so some of our new hires didn’t make it. I also wasn’t very comfortable with accountability at first. I didn’t want to micro-manage, but didn’t have enough structure to help people succeed and achieve their goals. I thought because I had been in the business for over 20 years, it wouldn’t be like starting over. Little did I know!!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We are an independent agency offering home, auto, business, and health insurance. Not many agencies cover all of those areas, which makes us a true one-stop shop for our clients. We take a very personal approach to insurance, and while our intake-to-close process may take longer than most, that’s because we want to be absolutely sure we get it right the first time.

What also sets us apart is how we connect with and highlight our community. We host an interview-style podcast where we feature entrepreneurs, Olympians, artists, and business leaders, sharing their stories of resilience and success. It’s not just about insurance—it’s about building relationships and helping people show up for what matters most in their lives.

At the end of the day, our clients know they’re not just getting policies; they’re getting a partner who’s invested in protecting them, celebrating their wins, and being there when life happens.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
It’s been a pleasure to work with my family in the family business for so many years. Any time I would get upset, my dad would tell me ” Work hard, do what’s right and everything will take care of it itself.” If you put the client first, then the answer to any problem is usually pretty clear. I joined BNI in 2018 after my dad had encouraged me to network for years and years. BNI forced me to talk about myself, and my business and what makes me different. I love being around other business professionals who are trying to grow their business and be better business owners and referral partners. My husband is my biggest cheerleader, too. I need to put him on the payroll!
