Meet Sushma Bogati of Saginaw

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sushma Bogati

Hi Sushma, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Threading has provided me with a dignified way to support myself and finance my bachelor’s degree. My journey began in high school when I first had my eyebrows threaded by a specialist. The transformation was astonishing—my unibrow disappeared, leaving me with beautifully shaped, symmetrical brows.

I was so impressed by the results that I decided to learn the technique from the same specialist. I practiced threading on my female family members and friends, and even tried facial hair removal on myself.

After moving to the U.S., threading became my primary source of income, helping me manage both my living expenses and education. While completing my bachelor’s degree, I worked in various threading salons, gaining valuable experience with a diverse range of clients and brow types.

In 2020, when the COVID pandemic caused layoffs, I was no exception. However, many of my loyal clients continued to seek my services. With the support of the stimulus check, I was able to turn my focus fully to my passion. I officially registered “MySalon Threading Studio,” and clients began booking appointments online. I offered at-home threading services, allowing my business to thrive even during challenging times.

Today, I continue to provide threading services to my loyal clients, traveling to their locations to cater to busy, family-oriented professionals. Finding fulfillment and purpose in beautifying others, I have since expanded my services to include haircuts, coloring, chemical treatments, facials, barbering, and lash extensions, broadening my ability to meet my clients’ needs.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Owning and running a salon is definitely not a smooth journey, especially as a first-generation immigrant and business owner. The learning curve can be steep, and mistakes along the way can be costly, both financially and in terms of reputation. Without proper guidance, the process becomes even more challenging.

I initially learned the skill of threading out of pure amazement with its results. Over time, I discovered deep satisfaction in seeing the joy on my clients’ faces when they achieved the look they desired. Threading is not just a skill—it’s an art, and like any craft, it takes time and dedication to master.

While perfecting my threading technique was a significant part of the process, I also had to invest considerable time in learning the business side of things. Understanding the intricacies of running a salon—managing finances, building a brand, and maintaining client relationships—took patience, effort, and a willingness to adapt. Each step taught me valuable lessons, but the journey has been rewarding as I continue to grow both personally and professionally.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in beauty services, with a focus on threading, hair, and facial treatments, and I am the owner of MySalon Threading Studio. My journey began with eyebrow threading, which I initially learned because I was fascinated by its precision and the transformation it brings. I’m now known for delivering beautifully shaped, symmetrical brows and providing a range of other beauty services, including haircuts, coloring, chemical treatments, facials, barbering, and lash extensions.

What sets me apart is my attention to detail and personalized service. I pride myself on creating a welcoming, comfortable experience for each client, and tailoring my work to suit their unique preferences. My clients appreciate the artistry behind the work, and I am committed to delivering results that make them feel confident and beautiful.

I’m most proud of my ability to adapt and grow. From learning threading as a skill to mastering the business side of running a salon, my journey has been full of challenges. As a first-generation immigrant, I’ve faced unique obstacles, but I’m proud of having built a loyal client base and expanding my services over time. It’s incredibly rewarding to see clients return, trusting me with their beauty needs and referring friends and family.

What truly sets me apart is the personal connection I build with my clients. My ability to understand their individual needs and deliver consistent, high-quality results helps me stand out in an industry that thrives on both skill and client relationships.
