Meet Swann Graydon of DTS Fitness in Carrollton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Swann Graydon.

Swann, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always enjoyed working out and just having fun doing physical activities from doing cartwheels to skating to racing in the front yard LOL. I was a bit of a “tomboy” growing up. I was always climbing trees and wrestling with my cousins and brothers in Michigan.

After high school, I joined the Army. I served almost three years before I was injured in a car accident, injuring my right leg and my back. I was in the hospital for almost two weeks. Not long after that, I was medically discharged from the Army. Then I focused on getting better physically and mentally.

I attended DeVry University and earned a Bachelors in both Business Management and Computer Information Systems. I worked in the IT field for almost a decade, then I started transitioning into the fitness industry.

I was both a full-time System Analyst/Software developer and Personal Trainer for three years before I decided to dedicate all of my time to health and fitness.

I went from helping family and friends with health and fitness out of Apartment complex gyms to High School tracks to a local church parking lot to finally a local gym, American Indoor Gym in Carrollton, Texas.

Then from word of mouth and social media, I grew from training five people outside to training over 35 people at American Indoor Gym. After training at American Indoor Gym for over a year, a gym ownership opportunity was offered to me by a friend in the Bodybuilding Industry.

I have been in the Bodybuilding Industry for over five years and made several connections and knew this was a great opportunity.

So now it’s going on three years that I’ve had DTS Fitness and I haven’t looked back.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It definitely has NOT been a smooth road. When I initially jumped on the ownership opportunity there was 5 of us and that’s too many chefs in the kitchen… too many disagreements, bumping heads, etc… however, we figured out ways to make it through…. and I’m glad I stuck it out because as of now, 2019, I’m actually the majority owner/CEO of DTS Fitness.

As far as clientele, clients come and go, but I will say that I have at least 13 clients that have been with me for over seven years. Using social media and word of mouth is a great way to get clients, but the key is KEEPING those clients. So having the knowledge, experience and skills to help them achieve their goals is what’s going to keep them coming back to you.

DTS Fitness – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
DTS Fitness is a gym for personal trainers to train their clients and it’s also a membership gym for anyone looking to get a membership and just workout on their own.

DTS Fitness really is a one-stop shop because, in addition to being able to workout, we also have a nutritionist and a physical therapist onsite. Also, I recently got the approval for the Silver Sneaker program, which allows senior citizens in that program to train at DTS Fitness for free. I’m super excited about that. I’m looking forward to offering some group fitness classes for them.

I am the owner of DTS Fitness, a personal trainer at DTS and a group fitness instructor (Fit Fun With Swann boot camp) at DTS Fitness.

I train everyone from men, women, kids, people wanting to compete in the Bodybuilding industry to everyday people wanting to get fit or stay fit. I have clients as young as 13yrs old on up to 66yrs old.

I’m proud to say that DTS Fitness really is your neighborhood gym. I have five other trainers that train their clients there and we have a wide range of clientele and everyone gets along and has a great time all while working towards their fit goals.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success for me is having members that actually enjoy training at DTS Fitness…. having members that show up on a regular basis, workout, have a great time and want to share that with everyone else. It puts a huge smile on my face when I see members posting their pictures on social media and tagging DTS Fitness.

Oh, and it REALLY makes me feel good when I see positive comments in the suggestion box.

On the business side, DTS has been doing pretty good, but I must say, I would love to have at least 100 more members! I want to see members working out during non-peak hours. I want to drive by my gym and always see cars in the parking lot… that’s success for me.
