Syble and Nikki, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
We started in August 2018 as a consignment wedding dress shop. We would resell previously worn wedding gowns to new brides that wanted a designer gown at a bargain. A few months after opening we realized that we could not keep up with the demand of our customers, and decided to search for smaller designers that were unique, and that we could order on demand for our quickly growing customer base. A year after opening we decided to go to a fully brand-new shop with all gorgeous and handmade gowns. We focus on a personalized and unforgettable experience. We take time to listen to what brides envision for their gown and bring their dreams to life. At Birdie Bridal, your experience is so much more than a dress and so much more than a yes.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
One obstacle we dealt with in the beginning was how small our shop was. We envisioned just having one appointment going on at one time with an intimate setting. Quickly after opening we realized that we could easily configure our space to allow for two appointments at the same time and still provide an intimate experience. We have redone our layout twice so far to provide two appointments areas. The first time we did it we had one very large appointment area and one smaller appointment area. The second time we did it we redid a lot of our decor, including adding a brick wall, and made both appointment areas the same size so that each bride could include an equal bridal party.

At Birdie, we specialize in a personalized and memorable wedding dress shopping experience. We seek out small and unique wedding dress designers that feature details like hand beading and custom-made lace. We are set apart in the wedding dress industry by our expert stylists. We go to extreme lengths to make sure that every stylist is as knowledgeable as possible on styles, silhouettes and details that bring the dress vision that every bride dream of to life. We are most proud of the supportive customer base that we have built and our online presence. We have had brides drive as far as eight hours to shop with us to experience what Birdie has to offer.
How do you define success?
We define success as our employees loving their careers at Birdie Bridal. The more our staff enjoys working, the better the experiences are for our brides coming through our door. We started out with just my sister and I doing every single appointment and day-to-day operations. Now we have five amazing staff members that will meet each Bride at the door with a smile and a mimosa in-hand to start their unforgettable experience. One marker that define success is that every single stylist we have every hired is still working for us!
