Meet Sydney Person of Personal Space Design in Arlington

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sydney Person.

Sydney, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Although my creative entrepreneurial journey officially began once I moved from Memphis to Dallas, I’ve always been into the arts. Since a kid, I’ve been involved in creative activities such as playing the piano, painting, dancing, etc. Music became my first love until I discovered photography. My aunt got me my first camera in 2015, which was a Nikon D3000. I was 15 at the time and had no idea what I was doing with it. I actually even let it sit in my room for a couple of months before I even touched it and began experimenting with it. However, once I did, I started my very own photography business, which was called ‘Personal Touch Photography’ at the time. I did shoots for only $25, and it got me by for the most part. Without the support of my close family, friends, and especially my mom, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

In 2016, my mom and I moved from Arlington to the Mansfield area, where I attended Mansfield High school. There is where it all began. I met my digital media mentor, Temi Coker, in my junior year in high school. The two years I spent as his student, we trained for competitions, learned how to use all Adobe apps, and even worked on our own personal projects to build our knowledge in digital media. Coker presented me with the Entrepreneur Award at 16, Rising Star of Texas Award at 17, and also the Senior of the Year Award at 17 as well. During the time, I was suffering a loss, and Coker really showed me how to use my voice + express my feelings through my art and work.

Growing up, I always designed my own websites, logos, and business cards, and it wasn’t until I transitioned to Texas Southern University in 2018 when I realized it. I went into college with the mindset of running a photography business. However, I didn’t have a car my first year so it became hard for me to schedule shoots, travel to them, and so on. Me not having a car allowed me to spend an ample amount of time in my college dorm room, discovering my talents. My love for graphic designed developed in October of 2018, when I got the idea to build a graphic design company. I began doing logos and websites for my close friends who owned businesses and used social media to show the behind the scenes of me working to build my clientele. I currently attend the University of Houston, where Personal Space Design Co. is growing at a fast pace.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
One of the biggest battles for me was losing my father at a young age. Since 2015 up until now, I’ve seen some very challenging times as a young woman; however, every set back has led me to where I am now. I am truly grateful for my experiences because they have molded me into who I am today.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Personal Space Design – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
