Today we’d like to introduce you to Takara Carter.
Hi Takara, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey really started when I was a six-year-old girl in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, who had a passion for writing. Over time, I spent my years immersed in poetry and short fiction. I created a poetry book in 9th grade and have kept it with me since.
I eventually wanted more from my writing. I wanted to set myself free from a lot of things but also wanted to see how far it could take me. So, I began my career in writing when I received my bachelor’s in English from University of Phoenix. During my studies, I published five publications. All of which became bestsellers on Amazon charts in genres like Family relationships, Marriage, Divorce, and short fiction.
Then, I decided to further my studies with my Masters in English and Creative Writing from Southern New Hampshire University because I wanted to be a publishing consultant, advance my skills as an author, become a coach, and redefine what it means to have a career in authorship. I now have published more than 13+ titles of my own and more than 50 as a consultant.
As a result of all that, I created Writluxe Writing Firm, a virtual writing firm where my team and I help thinkers, believers, and lovers of the art, become writers and published authors.
Today, my company has grossed more than 50k in revenue in a short few months, amid a global pandemic, as a result of people who value and believe in their purpose of sharing their insightful stories with the world.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has not been easy, but it has been worth every experience. There are a couple of obstacles that I could have done without during this journey, but I find them relevant for growth. For example:
– Finding consistent and reliable help – This has probably been the hardest part of the process. I’ve invested so much money in individuals, including small businesses, who do not honor their commitment when it comes to being reliable and consistent in their practice. I place a lot of value in my customers and their experience, so having to tell them that things can’t be completed or done within the agreed timeline is far from what I would ever want to share. So, it took lots of dedication, vetting, interviewing, and testing to find the right team for my Firm.
– Surviving a global pandemic – Never in a million years would I have thought the pandemic would have changed so much. People have had to determine what is more important to invest in, and I can admit, my firm has seen some very low-income months as a result. While the business thrived tremendously during the initial Covid-19 pandemic, I am now realizing how this new variant is affecting families, so it has caused people to really determine what is best for them. A professional writer may not be as important.
– Remaining organized – Maintaining organization is critical in my practice. It is so easy to lose track of important things, miss deadlines, forget to follow-up, among other things. I have a busy schedule. I operate every part of my business, or at least for a while, I did by myself, so it was challenging trying to be in five different areas of the business at once. I’ve hired a team of professionals who I trust will transition the experience of my clients and their needs and save me so much time so that I can have a healthy balance between work and personal.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
The primary lessons I’ve learned amid the pandemic are:
1. Practice safety and healthcare daily. This includes washing hands regularly, sanitizing your workspace/home, masking up, taking vitamins and following other holistic health initiatives.
2. Love on your family more than ever. In January, I lost one of my older brothers and it was devastating. Families weren’t gathering due to the pandemic, and I didn’t get to attend his funeral. That was hard for me. So, I feel that it is important to show love daily, no matter how much time and distance is between you and those you love.
3. In business, share your skills & OWN IT! I teach my students that they are the experts at what they know, my job is to simply teach them how to demonstrate that through written form. I find this relevant in many areas of life. When you are operating a business of any kind, you’ve invested in the knowledge, field experience, and all things that support you being the expert of that business. Be confident in that and don’t be afraid to let people know that they should work with you! Having additional income is critical right now, as we don’t know what tomorrow may bring.
4. Self-care is the best care. This means take care of your mental. Don’t be afraid of counseling. Take a break from social media to decompress. Don’t chase bad news, as it can significantly impact your mental thoughts and feelings. Don’t be afraid to cut things off that make you uncomfortable or upset. As we presently see, life is way too short.
5. Love and let love. Meaning, share, spread, and immerse yourself in love, but be open and willing to accept it in return. This is the time to have some of that positive energy in your life, more than ever.
